Too think, if we kept our reserves he couldve just stayed inside the club.
As it stands this is what an Academy team would look like if we had one, and everyone was injury free.

F: Carter - Pascoe - H.Ferrari
HF: Szust - Cockatoo-Collins - Turner
C: Harris - Stevens - Chamberlain
HB: McLennan - H.Williams - Roberts
B: Aldridge - Weidemann - R.Burgoyne
R: Brazel - Francou - Cheesman
INT: O'Reilly - Calvett - Launer - O'Brien - Baldwin - Byrne - W.Ferrari - Cooper - Gilchrist

So with Oli Francou signing from North, and the fact we're only allowed 1 player per SANFL club, guess that means Louie Montgomery can't sign with us...
Does anyone know if the 1 player per club rule only relates to the older players we can sign (think the total is capped at 4), or for the under 21's as well (think the cap on those is 6)?

The explanation of the new rules only specifies the one club per player rule for the mature age recruits, not the young players who missed out in the draft.

Honestly, that team would be competitive in a reserves comp

While the rest of our players would have been randomly spread out amongst 8 other SANFL clubs who are actively hoping for us to fail, but hey at least we could've kept Rome Burgoyne ... who we kept anyway

I meant the magpies reserves side to keep the SANFL listed players together when not selected for the magpies team.

Not with the pressure of being on an AFL list may benefit him.
He'll just be a Maggies top up player.
If he can get his body right, I'd like to think he could show a bit as an SANFL level bloke.
He does have lot of dash for a 201cm tall guy - a bit like a more speedy version of Justin Westhoff.

Maybe he lacks the inate footy nouse to be a defender, in terms of positioning, manning up, judging the flight of the ball, etc (like Ratugolea I guess).
So perhaps playing him further up the ground could be a strategy that suits his skillset better.

It's an interesting one. He has a twin brother who he has always played footy with and they were both going to train with Richmond's VFL team.

if Josh misses out, he could go back to Richmond or his brother could come over here.

Rumour that Shay Linke (leading goal kicker from Tunduna) has opted to join us instead of returning to Centrals.

Also noticed that current maggies player Nathaniel Cooper is registered to play for Tiwi Bombers in the NTFL over the summer.

Cooper that was playing C2 footy this year?

… let’s just marinate on that!

Slinky is very talented, kicks goals, decent boot on him. Looks slow, but like Pendlebury, manages to find space in congestion.
Spindly build.

Is he up to AFL standard?
Have my doubts.
SANFL standard?
I'd believe so.

Did have some soft tissue injuries late this season, and missed a few games, so durability could be an issue.

Good to see him have a crack.

Yes he was playing C2 Ammo's.

Goodies began to stack their C grade, when it was obvious that their A grade would miss finals.

My lad's team beat them comfortably twice during the season. Come finals there were at least 6 players we'd never seen before in the C's. All of them looked a class above the grade. Clearly good quality B grade at worst.
Questions were asked, but they'd done their homework well, and seemed to have managed to get their guys to play the requisite minimum number of games to qualify for the lower grade!

Cooper looked average in the semi final. May have been coming back from injury though, as he was in their B grade GF team. And an even better player made the C grade in his place!

Linke had an interesting draft year write up in 2021. 190cm on-baller, sounds like he has talent but lacks explosive speed.

At 190cm, Linke's size is a unique, complementary piece to his running ability and although by appearance his frame is slight, he possesses enough strength to lay physical tackles on the opposition and compete against bigger bodies. These physical tools also make him competitive in the air where he's a capable contested mark and strong above his head. Occasionally, when stationed in the forward half at senior level, Linke has been able to hold his own in the air against seasoned and more physically developed defenders, showing an ability to mark or hang in the contest and bring the ball to ground.
