But our first round history ain't great. I'll wait and see. It's more about development in my opinion anyway.

Lucky we’ve got two goes at it this time around. I’ll get shot down for this but I hope we get two of the best midfielders that are footballers and not another Logue. I’ve been mightily underwhelmed with him thus far.

I don't know if it's just me but I don't remember too many pundits banging on about Lachie Weller being a "star" or "future star" when he was running around in purple this year.

He's a good young player with great potential but he didn't even rank in our B&F top 10 FFS.

Yeah he has potential, yeah I like his tools and maybe he just needs experience. But obvious overpayment. Still, gotta sell it to the fans of the Suns and the AFL probably has to justify it to themselves a bit.

I would have been pretty happy with pick 20 or so if he said he was going to leave when his contract was up. Getting pick two is absolute lunacy, Patrick Cripps probably wouldn't get that and he's proven more and has lots more potential.

Logue is looking an average selection and his biggest wraps were heights and athleticism. To me he doesn't really seem to have a natural groove out there on the ground and he doesn't seem made for any one position. I prefer getting someone with a few damaging footy traits (whether that's a nice skill, a smart side step and ability to get out of trouble, or an ability to know where the ball is going to go next and racking up touches) than a tall athlete but eh whatever. Sometimes I feel like Fremantle's indifference towards WA talent for so long has now gone way too hard the other way and we're basically willing to trade for anyone from the state and will rate a draftee higher because of it. While I think drafting West Aussies is smart, dunno, feels a marginal defender isn't the way to spend your top ten pick.

Anyway, get two really good mids or a great mid and a forward and I'm happy.

We just won the jackpot. Gc messed up. I can't see Weller making their top 10 list either.

His 2012-13 seasons were superb.

i agree. He just looks lost out there.

Having said that NikNat looked lost and they have managed to turn him into a very good tap ruckman (i think he is overrated in general but he makes the slow WCE look quick sometimes).

I agree in that we should be looking for two top shelf mids (which are basically the only elite talent in this draft). Yes we have fyfe but Mundy isn't getting any younger and at times our midfield got pantsed this year (vs Adelaide etc)

Actually I think Weller will be as good as Neale. Obviously different types, but Weller has a fair bit of upside.

Yep, exactly. It's a bloody good deal for GC too. A win/win.

As Lloyd said, getting pick 2 is a good opportunity for the club and that's what it is...an opportunity. If pick 2 fails for us, GC win the trade easily. At least they know exactly what they're getting and it's very good.

If he's only getting half a mill to try and sell AFL to the disinterested masses on the Gold Coast, he's not getting paid enough. He'd have more chance of selling snow shoes in Alice Springs.

That said, it's just another example of the AFL distorting the player market with their involvement via GC and GWS. Thankfully in this case in gave us pick #2 so it isn't all bad.

I reckon we could’ve matched the Suns offer of $500k a year but I reckon Ambassador money and extra media work to be the face of the Suns swayed Weller. Weller loves the camera.
