To some extent, yes. Mayne had a good career with us but he was very slow to move the ball and tended to kill momentum by being too cautious.

It was team wide. I wouldn't blame the players for the way that team moved the footy. I don't think it was Mayne leaving that completely altered the way we moved the footy.

Pendlebury wasn’t consistently receiving the ball in acres of space on the wing only to hold it up then go backwards.
Yes he was. The whole team was.

It wasn't what you wanted him to do, but considering he did the same thing week after week and got picked and praised, it was pretty clearly something the coaches were happy with. Do you really think that he was expected to wheel and go and move it quickly but was defying instructions and still getting praise and continual selection?

No he wasn’t. The whole team wasn’t.

Even his opposite winger Tom Phillips didn’t hold the ball up like Mayne would. Even Daicos when he played in the wing under Bucks didn’t play like that.

When did I say he was going against the coaches instructions when holding the ball up?

Both were brought in as pressure and tackling forwards.

Mayne kicked 11 goals in 5 seasons.

1) The Lachie Schultz trade is starting to pay off

You need to watch Lachie Schultz to fully appreciate his impact on Collingwood. After being maligned in 2024 following his high-profile move from Fremantle, the 27-year-old is emerging as one of the best pressure forwards in the AFL. When Schultz was awarded the Richard Pratt Medal on Thursday night, his teammates rushed towards him. They rate what he does. Champion Data rates Schultz as elite for pressure points, tackles inside forward 50 and score involvements. After kicking two goals from 17 touches against the Western Bulldogs before the bye, Schultz finished with 18 disposals, nine score involvements, seven tackles and two goals to be an inspired choice for best on ground against Carlton. When the game was there to be won in the third quarter, it was Schultz who harassed the Blues on transition and finished off his work in front of goal. - Josh Gabelich
