Assuming Fremantle won't give Murphy Reid up (and I doubt they will) I don't think they will have the sort of picks needed to convince Melbourne to do the deal. I would say it's more likely he's stuck at Melbourne next year.

I think even Melbourne, who in my opinion, are more stubborn on sticking to contract than most, will have to give this one up. The place is clearly going to reset and holding disgruntled players of value is silly, particularly one which seems to have had very open and honest chats early enough.

Freo are always more than fair, they'll pay up, always do.

I would suggest a lot of this would hinge on what happens with Goodwin.

If Goodwin stays I’d see Melbourne holding Pickett to contract as they try for one last crack with the core of the 2021 premiership team.

If Goodwin gets sacked I think Melbourne are more likely to look further into the future as the new coach would be expected to be around for 5+ years. Melbourne should be more amenable to a trade for draft capital and maybe a player who is seen by Freo as a flight risk anyway.

They can't be that ridiculous on keeping Goodwin, surely...

This draft is awful though, on top of that the teams that have good picks probably won't be looking at their players. We just got lucky that Rioli wanted Dimma and Freo were loaded with picks as well. On top of that West Coast bizarrely gave up pick 3 to get a pick for Baker.

Freo no longer have good picks and if players like Petracca go, they will probably want Collingwood or Geelong. It wont work out well for Melbourne. But they could have done it last year, so it's really their own fault.

Agreely mostly but also that "the luck" was almostly definitely thought out in advance. Bolton and Rioli knew they could get where they were trying to get to because of the picks the teams had. There's probably no request if both teams only have a single pick 15+.
