Coach Josh Carr - Midfield Coach and 2026 Senior Coach

The more this goes on, the more i am concerned about Josh being setup to fail as senior coach. Our midfield has been seriously underperforming under Josh and he is the midfield coach. We always setup attacking and even when Sweet hits to advantage our mids get pushed off the ball. If Josh has any chance to succeed we will need to recruit a few proven forward line and defense coaches along with Choco as senior assistant. I would also try to pry Burgess back from Adelaide and send the boys to Dubai this preseason, those group trips give the team a psychological boost.

Chad Cornes, Tyson Goldsack, Hamish Hartlett, Matthew Lobbe, Trent Henschell all need to go. We new coaches to bring different strengths from other clubs

I think there are two main arguments against Carr. The first is that he's been tainted with the same brush of Hinkley and Koch. The second is that we could've done an exhaustive search.

If Carr is a ruthless guy who wants to win and his playing style and coaching has always been that way then he will have his own way to coach. I mean the dude went to the Ramsgate to kick A$$ and take names. He's loved for that. The second one is fair enough but if he's a bloody good coach and has been in the running for a few jobs, then the home factor might be too irresistible.

He's that half back flanker, hard nut type midfielder that got as much as he could out of himself and always sacrificed and worked for the betterment of the team. I can't see that changing when he becomes head coach.

I'm pretty excited but its going to be an 8 months of edging. Up until then, it's foreplay until the real deal is unleashed and we start the carr.

Hawthorn didn’t do an exhaustive search and it’s working alright for them

Did Hawthorn fans have concerns about Mitchell taking over from Clarkson?
Hawthorn brought in Sam Mitchell as an appointed successor to Clarkson on the back of being an assistant for a Premiership winning team.

At the start of July 2021, when they announced the succession plan of Mitchell taking over in 2023, it didn't even last until the end of July that they announced that Mitchell would actually coach in 2022. And they'd pay Clarkson to sit on his arse for a year.

Their succession plan was a miserable failure. Although it only took them 4 weeks to realise and just move on to the new coach. cough

Realistically these sort of plans are doomed to fail, not just for the individuals involved but for the club in general.
Good business doesn’t work this way , you pay them out and move them on.
Dumb arses.

Remember when Surjan just stopped and laid down on the ground and got stretchered off for absolutely no apparent reason or explanation as to why, then played next week?

**** that was funny and bizarre.

Man, that’s a crazy flash back. Wasn’t there some scuttlebutt about it being a way to work around an interchange rule?

Good chat with Jacob Surjan this morning on SEN. I definitely think he'll be part of Josh's team.

Wasn't going to be on the coaching panel this season if Carr took over last off-season, so I'm not convinced such a move would happen for 2026.
