Reckon half the players in the league would be in trouble if socials and phone cameras were readily available in 70s and 80s

I don't think you can compare community standards & expectations from the 70s to what they are now.
I think the players of that era would have much less issue. Community standards and expectations around behaviour were much stricter then. The players were much more part of their community. There would have been a drink in the social club after the match and then maybe they found a pub or a pub with a band. Most pubs were closed by 10 pm and the few venues that stayed open later were mainly done by just after midnight. Unless you were in someones house party Melbourne was closed. More players would have played close to where they grew up so much bigger numbers would have still lived with their parents. A trip interstate would have been a big deal, getting on a plane would be a novel experience and overseas travel a very special event.

Players would have got away with much less, they would have been working all week and squeezing training between. Life in the 70's was much more pedestrian than today.

I can't see him playing this weekend. This saga has obviously taken a toll on him, hence his absence today. Thank the grubs in the media for putting a heavy weight on the young man shoulder's, with the possibility of causing some form of depression.....scum bags!

Yeah I got a feeling he won’t be playing on Sunday and the no show today isn’t a good sign. Will be interesting to see how this all unfolds.

Jeremy Howe says that Jordy is struggling at the moment and needs his space at this time....

Why? His value is worth less now than it was on Saturday. Club should be doing all they can to save some money if possible
Because it is only happening to him because he plays for Collingwood. We have once again caved to the media. Who would want to play for Collingwood. One sign of trouble and you get crucified by the media and shat on by your own club.

The thing is theres been nothing to add to the story since Saturday and the scum bags are still attacking him. There was an article today showing all the Pies boys on their breaks with their partners and kids with the headline "Hey Jordan, this is how you spend your break". Absolute ****n scum. I wish a plague on the pieces of shit

No it’s happening to him because he’s a repeat offender. To clarify my position, I wouldn’t suspend him, he’s done nothing unlawful and bad optics isn’t breaking the law.

But don’t show your bad hand in the middle of the negotiation, the reality is rightly or wrongly he has lowered his value on the market by a situation of his own doing, the club would be poorly run if they didn’t look to capitalise on it.

Apparently the players reached out to him to see how he's going, and gave him their support.....
I don’t doubt that. Shame the administration didn’t do the same.

Thats one way of negotiation... typically effective for short-term deals.

Buy certainly not a great technique for an ongoing mutually beneficial outcome that is long term i.e. a playing career

I'm surprised we offered him $800k pa and he didn't think about jumping on it.

Those of you that liked my post you may need to reconsider as I am not defending JDG, think he is an idiot that has been at the club since 2015 and at 26 needs to grow up as I am sick of his antics.

After 7 years he should be a role model that the younger players can look up to and I think the club has been more than patient with him. I seriously couldn't care if he isn't there next year.

I want to read news on my club, prospective draft picks, training, wins, losses not about fools.
It's not his fault the media obsess over utter trivialities. The incident in question would happen countless times and from both genders in a fun holiday environment with drink and a nearby swimming pool. Anything can look indecent if magnified out of context and focused on relentlessly by the media. I saw the girl leaning over a seated Degoey kissing his face with her arms all over him. Was that consensual?
That's the state of farce we have reached.

He was offered a two year deal with triggers*, not exactly something I would call long term

*according to the article

I think you are being a bit naïve. With De Goey's track record, had I been presented with the video as a reporter for one of these Murdoch rags, I 'd have gone with it as a viable story. There was enough in it visually to suggest there was some mileage in it prior to the girl establishing the nature of her relationship with De Goey. For something that is 'not newsworthy', it certainly got lots of media coverage, including being the headline story for commercial news outlets.
No story, particularly the more outrageous early ones sought comment from JDG or the girl. 60 seconds on the phone to either or both kills the story before slags like Ralph and Slobbo start imagining the trash they've spewed.

Headline first. Fact check second. Mental health of those involved, who gives a toss.

The optics of JDG's Bali antics are undeniably bad in my opinion. The act of cunnilingus and trying to flop a girl's boob out is at best immature and boorish. Under what context could that be just games between buddies? It's not criminal but it's at least in very bad taste.

Optics are just an outsider's perspective - and often an ignorant perspective because they are the viewpoint of an outsider.

He doesn't actually pull the top back, so he might have just been joking around and pretending he was going to.
They might be a group who expose each other for a laugh.
Or it could have been sexual harassment, where he got lucky that she didn't care.

Who the **** knows? But if Jordy is a bad arse, he seems a pretty bloody tame bad arse to me.

And the lewd gesture - imagine if a player was disciplined for pelvic thrusting on a dance floor, or even more amusingly on a mardi gras float - in the name of inclusion.

Hopefully right now the club is making sure he is coping with the shitstorm he’s in, not rubbing their hands together thinking how much money they can save.

I think you are kidding yourself. The players got away with a lot worse due to the absence of social media and mobile phones.
Craig Kelly and Gavin Corsica went out during the grand final week, got loaded and Gav injured his quad. He thought he would miss the GF but kept the severity of the injury hidden from Matthews early in the week. The media had no clue

What the media would accept for Collinwood player's time off.
