Was waiting to see how long it would take for someone to pick that up, interestingly it wasn't by the poster that believes the date is oh so meaningful.

And I agree, I'm old enough to remember when it became a national public holiday, so it is within my lifetime that it wasn't celebrated across the country. The idea that it is a longstanding tradition that must be upheld is nonsense.
Are you old enough to remember the first Australia day celebration in 1915 😄😄

2% of the population is still over 1/2 a million people. Sheer logistics mean that anything more than 2% would be a near impossibility to achieve.
Spread over an entire country.

That’s only 100 people in my 10,000 person suburb.

Actually had to start work very early on the 25th one year and drove past the local memorial service, a few dozen mostly grey haired oldies and no more.

Plenty of bored kids loitering about for most of the day however.

He was asked a question from a journalist.

Which one sounds like a prime minister and which one sounds like Bruce ruxton dug up and energised?

You can be ‘strong’ with a moderate message. Those tending to the extremes want you to think you can only be strong with an extreme message

Australia is not a naturally nationalistic country, there have been waves of jingoism.

So the message to Dutton is you don’t need to legislate to authenticate

More gays in Australia than people who attend ANZAC Day ceremonies.

Frankly I think most Australians would prefer Bruce Ruxton over Albo these days. At least he had conviction with his opinions.

Definition of woke, isn’t it? We’ll be a far better country (world) when we banish all concept of caring about others and just focus on being self-obsessed, selfish pricks.

There's a very simple way to get broad support for a new national day, even if it's in the deep dark of winter. Move the date while agreeing to create a new public holiday sometime in Jan/Feb. 'Agree to move the date and we'll give you another day off' is a guaranteed vote winner. Australia is a little underdone with just 10 public holidays for most states, with many other countries having 11 or 12.

300,000-500,000 attendees at the Sydney Mardi Gras parade alone, and that’s just for the main parade, not including all the other festivals and parties on during that time.

Sydney Anzac Memorial dawn service? About 7,000. Sure their other service in the suburbs but would have gotten no more than a few hundred each, and added all up only a fraction of the attendance of Mardi Gras.

Hey there’s a great idea - change the national day to Mardi Gras Parade night! It’s all above love, tolerance, acceptance and community which are all Aussie values. Only problem is, like Jan 26, a little too NSW centric 😉

Ahh it's that time of year again where all the phonies pretend to care about Indigenous Australians for political points scoring.
And when people genuinely care about Indigenous Australians want to say something.

Just because you’re welded to your views doesn’t mean other people aren’t interested in listening and considering. And aren’t being “political” in doing so.

By becoming a date on which people celebrate what the country has become without the baggage of a date linked to negative events for the original inhabitants of this land. It's not ****ing hard.

I also think you vastly overestimate how much of a shit people give that Captain Cook landed in NSW on this particular date. Most people couldn't care less, it's a day off in which you are told to celebrate Australia. You could give them a different day off and tell them to celebrate Australia and they would do so.
Captain Arthur Phillip actually - but in this you have made your point very well.
