Christmas has been cancelled?

The traditional Christmas giraffes suggest otherwise. Jesus famously rode one to victory in the Boonta Eve Classic.

The windows have a theme every year. Bluey was last year, Disney 100 was 2022 and so on.

Was the protest that actually occurred actually serious? Looked like a pisstake given the seriousness of what they were protesting.
They announced, or suggested it would be disrupted. Myer didn't want to be responsible for that going pear-shaped between families and a very serious protest and potentially counter-protesters.

The families will still turn up over the next few weeks.

Typical of many people in Australian society, that protest is ok as long as nobody notices and it doesn't disturb anyone's day.

Yet most who support these protests got upset at protesters that didn’t cause any disruption to their lives because they were locked inside their homes 23 hours a day…

So that makes it ok for you to whine constantly with whataboutisms?

Just finishing a holiday in Sri Lanka. Travelled close to 1,000 kms, and Ive got to say the roads are in much better condition here than the roads in Victoria. No potholes or patch repairs. And this is a country that has rainfall 10X + than what we get in Victoria.

Don’t let Allan fool you into believing the condition of our roads is due to a heavy downpour in 2022. It is the result of sustained cuts in road maintenance funding.

Maintenance of Victoria’s crumbling road network has fallen to record lows with repair work slashed by a staggering 95 per cent last financial year, new figures have confirmed.
New government data shows just 422,000 square metres of regional roads were rehabilitated or resurfaced in 2023-24, down from 9 million square metres a year earlier.
It means maintenance works were completed on road areas the size of 21 MCGs last year, compared to 450 MCGs the year prior.

It’s like our budget, they cut, cut, cut then do a big announcement for funding for a special project and make it look like they’re giving us more money.

Done the same with roads, cut, cut, cut then did the big announcement of major repairs…

The Allan government has diverted more than $40m from Victoria’s road safety program to spend on speed cameras instead.
But the state’s top transport bureaucrat has promised the move won’t leave safety programs short changed.

Documents tendered to the parliament’s Public Accounts and Estimates Committee showed the total estimated investment in Victoria’s Road Safety Strategy decreased by $42.8m in 2023-24.

The money was transferred to the Department of Justice and Community Safety for additional intersection speed and highway network cameras.

Department of Transport and Planning secretary Paul Younis on Wednesday could not detail how that money would be spent, but said there would be no reduction in Victoria’s road safety program.

Yeah nah

kind of amusing watching conservatives, Qookers and other assorted whack-jobs pushing various anti-left/anti-woke/anti-dan viewpoints try and turn road pot holes into some sort of electoral 'end of times' issue that will propel us into a new age of far right enlightenment :drunk:

So you think the state is in a good position? Victoria is a basket case. The state of our roads is just the start of it.

Pot holes and the state of our roads is a mess. Calling that out and saying it’s a problem, doesn’t make someone a “qooker”. They are all over the place in the eastern suburbs and some are actually pretty bad.

Maybe try and start having some BASIC expectations from your government.

Have you driven on a country or rural road lately? Plenty of "left-wing" people in my part of the world would very much like something to be done about the state of our roads.

We can cough up $1bn for an event that we didn't even hold, but I can't drive to work without worrying about losing my car in a pot hole.

This isn't a play to "get" the Premier, it's people expecting a basic level of public infrastructure.

Kind of amusing your head is far up Jacinta’s ass you think the government is not actually responsible for anything in this state.

Police- Not their problem
Ambulance- not their problem
Health- not their problem
Fire services- not their problem
Roads- not their problem

Just what do you think your dear leader is actually responsible for other than cosplaying in orange vests?

I mean, they did already dedicate a billion dollars to this problem in October.

This is like the rail tunnel malarkey.

People in most of Victoria have no idea how bad the B and C-Class roads west of Colac are. They make the odd pothole in the outer-suburbs here look like a grand prix track.

There are c-class roads out near Macarthur which would be bad Council roads.
