At this stage based on asking price I would be going to the draft but there are so many unknowns.

I guess a question that needs to be asked, is there a 3rd option that is getting another high calibre, young mid that is slightly cheaper and going to the draft an option?

If Harley Reid requests a trade you get it done. I don't like trading multiple firsts but if Draper leaves and nets us Band 1 you do it. 2 this year and one in 26/27, especially if you can get a couple of seconds back.

Draper goes and nets us band 1, I think this is wishful thinking, but let's wish.

Assume we finish 15th, we'd have picks 4+5 plus the Demons 1st, I think 4+5 alone is worth more than what the Eagles would get next year, if Reid won't sign and wants out they'd take this deal.

We would get Harley, still have a 1st and 2 2nds while keeping our 2026 draft hand intact.

This guy isn't Chris Judd, we dont even know if Reid will be an A grader yet. Guy is fat and lazy, he is a complete risk IMO.

I'm not going anywhere near him with 3 high end first round picks. I would do 2 x Top 10 picks max and if that doesn't get it done, cya later.

I’m erring on the side of keeping our picks. As enticing as having a marquee midfielder like Reid is, there are too many question marks around his focus to live up to his undoubted ability. Three potential stars to fill out a dubious squad is exactly what we need not one potential star. I’d rather target an established gun midfielder once our squad has filled out and the unworthy are chopped from our list.

Money aside there's genuinely no reason why Harley would, imho, logically choose Essendon as his choice of destination.

The path could not be clearer for us: Go to the draft and get multiple talented kids in, clear out the dead wood and let's stop sabotaging ourselves over and over. Like a professionally run AFL club would.

We have a pretty crap record with our top draft picks for over 10 years and while we got rid of Dodo we're still likely to spud it up , soI'm leaning towards getting Harley if it costs us 2 picks. He is only 19 yet could still be better than any of who we draft at the top end this year.

You could not trade 2-3 firsts for him in good conscience unless he improved massively this year.

Last year he finished 9th in the B&F in a terrible, terrible team.

He is a generational talent.
Two first rounders and a second rounder will get it done.
Zac Merrett is our best player easily but he is not going to win you games very ofyen
Reid has a chance to be a Dustin Martin, Darren Jarman or James Hird type who can.
Nate Caddy is the only player on the list who is capable of being this guy.
Caddy, Reid and Kako in your forward half to grow and develop together has to be considered an exciting prospect. Kyle Langford and Jade Gresham will be an experienced foil for these blokes in the next three or four years and then you hope a Kayle Gerryn type really develops. Unfortunately Harrison Jones has not developed and jye Menzies has a low ceiling.

I think he's shown glimpses of what he'll be. WCE are a shit show right now, he looks about as interested as JHF at North. He also had a limited preaseason didn't he?

I don't think we've got a single player on our list that has shown the glimpses of becoming what (IMO) Reid will be at 25.
