Rochester the clear team to beat in my opinion. Shepp might improve but think they will beat up on the lower teams and then be tested come the pointy end. Rochy have some good kids coming through, some top end VFL talent and the boys from the Bendigo league will be better for the run last year. A fit Hoopell and Gordon help, they were banged up at the end of the year.

They haven’t got near Echuca when it has counted for a long time, and they are still the team to beat unless proven otherwise. Rochy don’t have the cattle to match them IMO.

They ( Rochy ) got the points in an early season game a couple of years when holding Echuca scoreless .

Echuca played players that were not cleared to play in Round 1 that year ( reckon there was 1 or 2 in the reserves too maybe). Fined $10,000 fully suspended until 2023 season. From memory Echuca owned up to it after assuming the players were cleared as they could be entered on play HQ.

Players in question had multiple PlayHQ accounts with different spelling on names. Eg John Snow and Johnny Snow. So without realizing, the players registered and it didn't trigger a requirement for a clearance. Now the league provides a check for those with multiple play HQ accounts to stop this from happening....

Another example of what a shambles the GV is, how you can possibly strip points for a glitch is astonishing. Drowning in debt..

Can't even find a sponsor to produce a record...surely they could have rolled out a one off document with players numbers etc. They don't need to do it every week but maybe one or two a year for people to purchase when they get to the ground.

From memory Mooroopna got done for playing above their points but common sense prevailed this time and they were able to adjust this due to a processing error.

Don't see it changing for a few years to be honest
After seeing the excitement of my kids watch the ncaa tournament yesterday and the march madness, maybe it's time for afl vic to do this in august September, where they pick the best 64 clubs in the state for a knock-out tournament, with grand finalists to play Friday before the grand final or curtain raisers event. So instead of finals in major leagues you qualify for this.

We seem to have a real staleness in results and ladder make-up across all leagues in the state. You could get rid of the tac cup and let the best kids play in this comp, it'd be a far higher standard of play, so you'd have Echuca, rochy, ky, shepp and possibly Mansfield get through, with a murray side

Bit off topic but how's the local junior football going at present?

Setting up my week/weekend around what's on, and my team sheet for tomorrow's Bushies U16 boys side (correct me if I'm wrong) seems to only have 5 name players from the GV part of the region?

Obviously the hub destroyed what was the little Seymour comp at that important U15/16, but surely as a whole you guys have close to an equal sprinkling of pathways relevant talent in such a critical age group from your local comps?

Plenty of good talent in the Under 16 and Under 18 Pioneers from Ky & Echuca ( no Rochester players) although the level of representation should be stronger. There are 3 Under 16 boys and 5 Under 18 boys in selected squads from those clubs out of a combined 80 odd players. The region is massive so picking squads would be a nightmare so understandable that over a third of players selected are from Bendigo based clubs.

Apologies Shinjuku was referring to Murray U16 team for tomorrow.

Bendigo is the most challenging space of all in the pathways, and obtaining the right personnel without bias, let alone to the level required will always be equally as difficult as compiling squads.
More so now post Covid without our regions having monetary assistance to aquire and resource their talent ID portfolio's adequately, which sadly now often means "club nominations" carry far more weight than they should as you always get so many incorrect with that method.

Not all that dissimilar to interleague squads and the lazy cut/paste nature that comes from that.

Coaches kids, committee members kids, team managers kids - all without the understanding or respect to what the charter for these squads are supposed to resemble with an eye towards how things look and feel as 18/19yo's.

Bushrangers have become O&M eccentric . Yes at senior level there comp is some lengths ahead , however their juniors never have been.
It’s no coincidence that as representation from club outside the O&M has decreased so has the on field competitiveness of the Bushrangers.
The user paid Shepparton based academy program , which gives players first access to the entry level schoolboys ( V-line cup ) has been another disaster.
It just doesn’t seem to have sunk in that not all the best kids live in Shepparton and their parents can’t afford or don’t want to be travelling to Shepp multiple times a year for 5-6 years merely for an opportunity to fill spots in the Bushrangers Tac side

I like the direction that junior footy has headed recently, but with more work to do. Junior sides now being club based. KDL now with U15 and U18 teams. (Many also running U9/10 and/or Under 12s in GMJL). Stand alone junior clubs have disappeared - Kyabram and St Augustines will come together from this season.

Where to from here?
The KDL could possibly move into line with Murray and Picola with (U11), U14 and U17 junior teams.
Clubs to be capped at one team in U14 and U16 level in the GMJL - feeding into one U18 team in the GVL.

Areas such as Echuca have done very well in working with all member clubs within the town; Bombers, United and Moama, to have full complement of teams within their respective Senior leagues and also in the GMJL.

We have the anomaly where Benalla and Mansfield senior clubs are in the GM area, but their juniors are not. Whereas its the opposite for Alexandra, Broadford and Yea - their juniors are in GMJL but their Senior club doesn''t play in the GM area.

What are the thoughts about The Weekender being discontinued? Gone the way of selected teams in Friday's paper!

Some clubs do promote themselves well via social media, but to have one collaborative document such as The Weekender was something that I looked forward to reading when at the local footy.

Shambles but expected from the GV to be honest.

I understand cost cutting and progression towards digital media but i how many of our spectators are elderly/ non-technological and do not have the means to download the team sheets?

I think if they gave us a break down of where they are over-spending, the weekender would be a fair bit down the list of things they needed to remove immediately, especially without consumer opinion.

The footy program is one of the cornerstones of going to the country footy and is a must have. The Weekender is listed as generating over 27K nett profit last year in financial reports so it has to be based on lack of resources to produce it on a weekly basis and not financial. It does make you wonder what the sponsors have been told with the amount of eyes that see their business in a Weekender across the season.

Argee, It is a must have but I can see why they have stop it too. I have seen multiple boxes of Weekender that have to be destroyed by club and the league because of oversupply(Too me, It sound like the league were in a contract which gave each club a quota of the weekender in boxes but it could not decrease the quantity because they were on a contract with the printers).

I notice, It was not just the Elderly complaining on the weekend but it was everyone. I am annoyed as a spectator because the league could not give notice that there will be no weekender and we get a piece of paper at the gate with the list. I am also annoyed that this big shiny new App is "Coming Soon". Why could the Weekender have had happen until this shiny new App is operational and got the bugs out. It smells of poor planning at Kialla.

I am disappointed but the league or Hub need to come out an apologies because the Shepparton News article gave more questions than answers

Unfortunately I suspect it is due to cost saving .
Since 2011 the leagues financial security has been spiralling out of control and anyone who has raised concerns has been shot down .
The current board are unfortunately being forced to wear the consequences of their predecessors .

ky highly touted as a top three side, couldn’t put Euroa away? Look like ky got the jump early then it was fairly even the rest of the game!
