Interesting, I didn't know that, but i don't go to trainings. Do they do it to confuse the umpire or is there another reason?

To confuse the umpire and render snicko useless because all clubs know the snicko technology is a false flag operation and is at the discretion of the AFL.

Genuinely feel for the crows, you would think with all the technology we have in place, such a balls up, and not just the 4 points.. that’s just grim and sour way to end the home and away..
I feel for the Crows immensely, but I've gotta say, I feel for the Saints equally.

They literally would have qualified for the finals.

The Crows at least had one more game to win to qualify, but St Kilda would have already been in.

Why don’t we just change the rules and if it hits the post but goes through or is touched and goes through it’s still a goal or a point. Would remove all controversies.

Wow that is actually a really easy call for the goal umpire. The only way he can pay that a behind is if he's trying to fix the game
[Ahem cough cough] We don't talk about such things here. There is no rigging of games, the AFL never makes mistakes, umpires are above reproach and gambling has no impact on results.

Tennis, soccer, cricket and other sports all have technology that can conclusively overturn the umpires decision. Why is the AFLs technology so half baked especially when the umpires can determine if they want to use it or not. Just ruins the whole point of it.

I think a team should be able to opt for a review, which is not based on the soft call from the umpire and based on the evidence. Obviously AFL would need to invest in better technology at all stadiums for this to happen, which it probably won't

The technology was fine. The umpires just decided to back themselves in and make the call without review. The umpires should be celebrated for having the confidence to do so

Plenty of tennis and cricket players choose not to review decisions that would have otherwise gone their way with review technology

Just want to put it out there that I think the AFL needs to look at reversing the result, but there is no chance there will. They will say that there would have been 20 seconds left for Sydney to win the game.

But if you are Adelaide, you have so many chances this year to sew up a chance in the 8. Should have beaten Collingwood twice, should have beaten Melbourne and Brisbane and proceeded to get flogged by the Gold Coast twice.
71 seconds from a centre bounce with the 6 6 6 rule is more than enough time for a team to score.

You can't reverse the result and punish us for a mistake that had nothing to do with us.

It's shit but all that can happen is the AFL say it was the wrong call, should have been reviewed and that they will conduct a review of their process going forward.

Maybe a public flogging of the goal ump to appease the masses.

Goals that shave the post should just stand at this point. It would stop the confusion and put less responsibility on umpires who obviously can’t handle it.
How would you then determine shave vs a deflection? Or just anything that goes through the main opening without being touched = goal

The issue here is that the goal umpire made a wrong call and there is no way to correct that for a point.

The AFL has a host of rule changes to speed up re-start of play, and they will need to revise them to accommodate this.

My guess is, next year goal umpire and the score review umpire can both call for a review but it must be before the All-clear.

It was a goal, clear as day, and yes, the Crows likely would have gone on to win. The goal umpire made a huge blunder not calling for a review.

That being said, any talk of a replay or the result being overturned is ridiculous. It sucks immensely for Crows fans, but that's sport.

This could very well cost St Kilda finals as well.

You'd think the Bulldogs beat West coast easily.

Next week the saints have Brisbane at the Gabba. Not too many teams win up there.
The dogs play Geelong who have nothing to play for. They win that and they boot at Kilda out.
