Geelong offering Conway tells me they have secured another ruck in principle.

TDK? Cameron? Perhaps one of Hawthorn's fringe ruckman, Draper?

Draper is a UFA...

Marshall as posited by Bald above, is certainly the most intriguing. They couldn't expect much for a 29 turning 30 year old...and he would be an absolutely elite 'bridge' while we wait for Edwards to come on.

Doubt it would be Cameron, given Collingwood are in their window too, and they have no-one in reserve. Doubt it would be TDK, as we wouldn't bring in TDK and pay him triple what his brother is earning.

Maybe Reeves, but he's not our style.

Could be Ned Moyle even though he re-signed - not getting any games at GC and Read could go past him.

Bailey Williams when he has enough of West Coast?

Another crack at Nick Bryan?

Honestly, a lot of ways it could go. But, if the club truly is gauging interest for Conway, it means we're not confident his body will ever hold up to the rigours of AFL. If we can't get him right, not sure Carlton is the place for him either, lol.

Come on people 🙄... Surely people aren't that gullible, when people read things like this on BigFooty .....

C4 to yo door is the real deal. I know you dispute a lot, but he's actually one ITK that says something and you listen. He has a ton of runs on the board, and is clearly connected.

Re-signing means less than zilch in this current climate. Just means both parties have more leverage in contract/trade discussions.

If this is correct.. id be happy to buy you a slab of any beer 🍺 that is on Special at Aldi 😉

Hey I'm not saying it'll come to fruition, but, there's definitely at least some weighting that needs to be given to his intel, due to how much he's gotten right in the past.

I'm more of a scotch/vodka drinker, so I'll take any decent bottle of either:p

Can't see it being Reeves, he's the antithesis of everything Scott loves in ruckman, while Ramsden is just more of what we've already got.

Great tap ruckman is Reeves, but useless around the ground, above his head, and gets killed on transition.

Cameron is a little from column A, and a little from column B. He'd be a great get, just feel like if he leaves at all he's WA bound.

Roma and TDK would be priciest, but the best options by a wide berth. Exactly what Scott wants in terms of ruckman who play like mids too.

Listening to the tackle ….

Ollie Dempsey still uncontracted but expected soon.

His favourite game is Easter Monday …as he was a Hawthorn suppoorter ..and use to go the game go hard against Geelong. favourite players was Issac Smith.

However he loves Geelong and never wants to go elsewhere. They think a 4 year contract might be announced soon.

….

Good to hear he is happy as having him unsigned …makes me a little unnerved. Some clubs with cap room could offer something silly. It would just be like Rich to offer huge money and put him thru the PSD.

HIGH-FLYING CAT NOT KEEN ON MOVE

Reigning AFL Rising Star winner Ollie Dempsey insists Geelong fans have nothing to worry about, even though he hasn’t yet penned a new deal beyond the end of this season.

The high-flying Cats wingman says he has no intention of leaving GMHBA Stadium and is confident a deal with the club will be finalised.

“I love this place,” Dempsey said.

“I can’t ever see myself leaving.

“I am not stressed (about the contract) … there are some chats (that are being had) and it will take care of itself. I wouldn’t be too worried.”

Dempsey, 22, remains one of Geelong’s most important signings this season as he is in great form in his fourth AFL season after joining Joel Selwood as the only Geelong players to take out the Rising Star award.

His management and the Cats have been in discussions in recent times and a resolution on a deal — likely a four-year extension — is likely to come soon.

Dempsey hasn’t missed an AFL match since round 23, 2023.

I’m more uneveved by him being a rabid Hawthorn supporter and wanting to see Geelong lose more than anything else

Said last year that Edwards fits the prototype of what Geelong want in a ruckman far more than Conway.

That's not to say they think Toby's a spud, just that Edwards ceiling is more in the mould of an agressive version of Tim English/Rhys Stanley, while Conway shapes more like a Reily O'Brien type at his peak.

Scott and the club tend to lean towards the first option if given the choice, and if the club thinks Conway will just never be healthy, then they might have had that choice made for them.

Agree with Marshall. Would be a perfect bridge to Edwards for 3-4 years.

I'll believe it when I see it, but that would be a big move that suggests we're going to be throwing the extra S/C $$$ around for the next couple of years.

A bottle of Scotch it is lol...
Look , I really don't believe much what rumours people post on here. As at the end of the day, anyone can make anything up and post what ever they want... as tbh 99% of what people say it is false

Not know his body etc but at 30 ..one would think if you can get 2 to 3 out of someone…then anything after that is a bonus. I wonder what he would cost. If King is ever fit ..one would think King , Tdek and Rowan would not be a good fit.

Yes there is risk in paying Reid that much, but the upside is massive. And given his pedigree, clear ability and age he is very likely to reach his potential.

I don’t mind taking risk as long as the potential return is commensurate with the risk you are taking.

I don’t buy the narrative that he is disinterested/unprofessional. He is clearly in an environment that is a complete disaster and as a competitive person it is frustrating him to no end. He needs to get out of there. It is like what JHF was dealing with at North, but times about 10.

The only good thing about the environment is that it is souring his relationship with WC fans and media, which will make it easier and cheaper to get him out of Perth.
Fair enough. The upside is clearly high, but I can also see a world where he becomes an above average player, but not the generational talent some say he will be. Time will tell I guess.

I can't really believe the Conway rumour because his value is much higher to us than we would get in return for a trade.

We would be lucky to get pick 40 for him atm. So why bother trading him? even if we do have another ruck lined up, there's little incentive to move him on.
I can believe the Conway rumour, but I can only believe it in the context that another ruck already playing at afl level was over the line for us end of trade period.

Candidates:
  • Draper: not the greatest option but fits the requirement that they would have to be certain in landing him (UFA)
  • Marshall: makes sense that he'd leave if replaced by TDK and makes sense as a fit for our needs but contracted.
  • ROB: i don't think so Tim.jpg
  • Fort comeback? I wouldn't say no
  • pittonett if TDK stays? Unlikely

I like to think we get Marshall but preparing for a Fort-Rhys reunification next year

This thread is always a weird place every season.
23 pages in the last week and as with every year there's little of substance to talk about at length until October.

This would make much more sense.
I’ve posted about the Darcy Cameron option previously. Highly unlikely IMO but Cameron feels aggrieved by the Pies contract offers and situation so is looking at all options. And Pies want to have big player movement and need $$ for it… so ameron getting bigger offers from Pies can be a compromised situation

Go Catters

Cats.. your better then this! Come on mate. Don't believe everything you read on BigFooty. 99.5% of the time it's all rumours

It is 99.5% crap but historically the guy who dropped this is consistently in the 0.5%

Anyone else says it I wouldn't give it any thought

Rumours have to be realistic to be believed..why would the club extend his contract only to offer him up to other clubs?

Not buying it
I didn't understand this logic until recently either. But someone (might have been Dangerfield in an interview) mentioned the other day that one of the reasons clubs will offer a player a contract in this circumstance is because then they essentially become an 'asset' that they can trade. No idea about these rumours but that logic at least could explain the element that you're questioning.

I think Conway's status of contracted or not contracted makes near zero different on our plans to aquire another ruck, or his trade value in general.
