I agree 100% if these three Tsl teams have too many under 18 numbers send them to their feeder clubs like lauderdale did last year with east coast bombers and clarence did with lindisfarne.

Your not talking about keeping kids in football your talking about keeping kids at a single club. The facts from last season are that apart from probably the three main teams last year in Dodges, Kingborough and Glenorchy most other teams had trouble consitently fielding a full 22 every week, the kids weren't out there last season to field all 12 teams in the sfl colts, yet now you want to add a new competition and at least four new teams which means you want 16 full sides when last season there were only 10 and that is including east coast and lindifarne who were helped out. Also there were only 10 under 16 teams this year so how can the south field 16 teams when we have the numbers for 10?

I think the travel complaint about north hobart players having to go to Hounville and Cygnet is a big cop out, they are your zone deal with it and if they were playing colts they would have more travel to go and watch their son in the tsl when he is playing up north.

Like i've said in previous posts if theses 4 want a new competition to keep players all to themselves and have little to no involvement with their feeder clubs let them but they should be staying away from trying to pull teams out of the Sfl colts competition just so they have a better fixture.

Re: STJFL U/18's

Last time I checked Burbury played for Hobart

Burbury played juniors at Sandy Bay and Hutchins school.

To the best of my knowledge he played 6 games in his whole life with Hobart, which certainly helped him get noticed.

They may claim him as a "Hobart" player, but honestly you cannot seriously think they had anything to do with his development.

He was zoned to them so he played with Hobart after finishing rowing committments with the school and put school football (where he was captain) ahead of the mariners and club football.

His performance as a rower, school football and his 6 odd games with Hobart got him drafted!

Well truth be known it was more likely that his mum & dads genetic combination gave him his sporting & athletic ability which started the whole thing off!!!!!!
But if you really want it to be his junior club that was responsible, then knock yourself out.

You really do not get it!

My whole point has been we need to make it easier for kids to play Aussie Rules.

My response to George's origins is that all kids get their start at the junior level and we need to continue to evolve with a changing society to make this continue. It's very easy to claim recognition for a kid to be drafted, but where do they get the basic skills and understanding of the game from!

Logically an U/18 competion should embrace TSL & SFL, and whoever administers it is secondary.

After U/18's these young men will filter to TSL, SFL & Old Scholars which is exactly the way it should be.

If the foundations are laid correctly then the rest wil follow!!!!!!!!!!!

I think your the one who doesn't get things you just keep on about how we need this competition to keep kids in the game, but the fact is we don't have enough kids to support 2 competitions, this extra competition will make the south have to be able to fill more than 16 under 18 teams when it could only support 10 this season just gone.

Look at the numbers to field all 12 Sfl under 18's (which wasn't done last year) there would need to be 312 under 18 players ( that is allowing 26 players per team incase of injuries)and each Tsl Colts team has to have 10 under 18 players i believe which means another 50 players there plus a number of teams play more than the 10 under 18's. We need around 400 under 18 players to support the current set up we have now. Adding another competition will mean over 100 more under 18 players will need to come from somewhere.

This competition isn't likely to last long like all Afl Tas run leagues fail but the damage it will d before then is massive, lets face it the players at Tsl clubs are mostly more committed and are really driven to succeed in football, this new competition wont help them as they will do anything for a game, all the competition will do is hurt the kids that wont be Tsl standard footballers because when their club can't field a team they wont look else where you will just lose them from football.

Very well written, But take it from me that using facts & logic wont necessarily win the discussion on BF. :D
I totally agree with what you've said. This whole think comes about because of AFLTas stuffing up the 3 tear system of the TSL then trying to fix up the mess they caused by causing grief somewhere else.
I believe if the STJFL get suckered into this it will cause them & SFL & TSL clubs long term problems & NOT make it any better for kids to play footy, quite the opposite as you point out.

Merger - SJFC and Hutchins Old BOYS

in reference to an earlier post my mail is that Sandy Bay Juniors and Huthins old Boys are set to merge.

Watch this space.

Re:

Where does the TSL stand now with Abc pulling the pin?

heard on radio today that AFL Tas want TSL clubs to chip in to make up the shortfall that ABC want to cover footy next year. are these clowns serious? most clubs are struggling to come up with funds to pay players. why dont these buffoons take a paycut & make up the fifty grand they are short.

Surely they could find some money to cut at Argyle Street?

Why would any of the clubs want to contribute their scarce funds to pay for Tv coverage, especially the Northern clubs who would get no coverage of any home games and in some cases only feature in 1 or 2 of the games that would be broadcast. I think AFL Tas have no hope of getting any money from the clubs for this. Does this mean that the ABC coverage is dead in the water ?

Most of the games shown were of north v south games anyway. They said on ABC radio that North Hobart & South L'ton both declined to put money in for broadcasts. Who would have the money anyway. Who would have made any sort of profit last year, especially if you take out any AFL handouts?

Re: Fevola

NFL doesn't start till September or October I believe?

You would think he would look at any footy offers then try his luck in the US. would be huge get and drawcard for any TSL team, even if only a one off thing

Colts

I understand that the Colts will now only require that 10 players be aged 18 years or under in the 2012 season. This number was 14 U/18 boys in 2011. Looks like it is slowly moving to an U/23 competition.

This entry should cause some interesting comments! Don't shoot the messenger as I just thought someone would be interested!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Colts

didn't the clubs just get a dividend from the 2011 season worth about what they're being asked to contribute?

wtf are afl tas handing out dividends if the cant lay their hands on 50 grand? poor management. again.

short sighted by the clubs though. if you're contributing to the coverage, you can seek guarantees from AFL tas about distribution of games. if AFL Tas contribute all the money, clubs get no say - its all AFL Tas, within the bounds of where the ABC will travel.

and how do you build interest if no one knows you exist?
