Notice :

Do not post names of players speculated to be involved in the sexual assault claims.

There has been a very clear suppression order put on anyone naming or speculating on players involved.

This is a site wide rule that must be followed.

What's Jamarra's excuse then? He didn't actually have to go to Adelaide, Failscray have been thereabouts and Beveridge is an excellent coach. Too much nose candy? Solid water?
I’m just highlighting the similarities between JHF and Harley. Not every instance of number 1 draft picks being unprofessional is going to be the same.

Though it must be said there is clearly a disproportionate amount of attention and pressure placed on players drafted at pick 1.

Wait until I tell you about all the guns picked later in the 1999 draft.

Darren Glass, Bob Murphy, Rhyce Shaw, Brad Green, Brent Guerra (later traded to us of course), Paul Chapman, Daniel Giansiracusa, Leon Davis, Rhett Biglands, Mitch Hahn, Cameron Ling, Lindsay Gilbee, Corey Enright, our very own Chance Bateman...need I go on?

Never change St Kilda 😂😂

Famously described by master coach Tim Watson as "the next Robert Harvey".

All these years on and Tim’s football knowledge is just as good. “Harry Hustwaite” he mentioned he was a big fan of on SEN

It will always be hilarious how the St Failda board gave Stan Alves the boot for Tim Watson just because he was a good commentator on Channel 7.

I mean, I never played under him, maybe other posters here could give more of an insight regarding what playing under him was like. But from an outside perspective he wasn't a coach's arseh*le.

There’s been 11 games played this season.

That’s a big enough sample.

Only 205 to go.
How’s that “not a set play” going for you Hedgie?

Even JHF showed more at his time at Norf compared to what Reid is currently dishing out.

He's a big watch.
No he didn't.

Reid had a poor game today but he was brilliant in games last year. Top 20 HBG player in the league, equal with Josh Dunkley and Jack Viney. His game against Melbourne might be the most dominant first year game I've seen.

Can already tell there's going to be a tonne of tall poppy syndrome about this kid.

It’s extremely hard to play decent footy in a shit team that’s getting smashed.

It’s extremely easy to pile shit on a kid when the media talk him up.

He will be/is a gun

Others have answered, but to put some more detail in - the club was in a BAD place.

Knights was speaker at a Hawthorn event and spoke about his time coaching the club in the 90s - he told his story warts and all (mainly warts! - his joke). I don't actually remember the point of the speech - it was a weird negative vibe that stayed with the audience after. I think it was Daniel Harford hosting, and he kept trying to lighten the mood interrupting with jokes that just fell flat. Dicker was still president so this is pre Kennett.

...
Thanks for that Simon.

I would go every week but never knew it was bad, let alone that bad.

Mod's maybe Simon's reminiscences and those of other can be moved to the 100-year celebration thread or a sub thread so they are resource for years to come.

Certainly, individuals like Peter Knights and Langers for example, if this is what truly occurred, should have their contributions to the club other than their playing history recognised and applauded.

Reid's last game has about as much bearing on his future career projection as Watson's did last week. People need to chill, it's one game.
Nah, he’s no good and unfit.

A Future 4th should do it.

Cayden Beetham is a name I’ve not seen mentioned for a long time. Never amounted to much did he.
He was talented, particularly at junior level. I remember him during school days. Had injuries and a back issue from memory. Some questions on his work rate too I suspect… Saints development at that time was grim.

not sure about "tall poppy"
what is controversial is the fact that should he go, WCE may want 3 first rounders and he may want $2 million a season.
he's clearly going to be a great player, but is he in the Judd/Daicos stratosphere? Jury's certainly out on that one, and therefore so is his trade value.
That’s exactly the point I was trying to make.

The trade value being put on his head is way out of proportion to what he has actually produced.

My query is does he have the professionalism to take the next step from a clearly talented but inconsistent player to a Judd / GAJ type player who brings it every week?

Does he have the discipline of a Sam Mitchell / Lachie Neale / Scott Pendlebury to devote himself to his craft or is he more a Jake Stringer?

If he wants $2 million a year turning up unfit to pre season training and going the biff instead of focusing on getting the footy won’t do him any favours.

He most certainly is unfit.

I really hope he goes to the next level with his professionalism, because he'll easily become an all time great*.

*unless he goes to Geelong. He can stay on the Jake Stringer fitness regime if that's the case.

full faith in sleepy & rough answering those questions

So much for “the comp is very even” eh?

So many beltings.
In round 24 there are teams who know it's over and have given up. They get belted. It's weird to have teams admit it's over in round 1.

If that's what it's going to take then throw it at Sheezel, the kid is all class....
Sheezel>>>>>>>>>>>>>Reid
