Naah if Hodge was fit we winThomas Murphy plays the 2012 GF we win .
If bud had kicked straight, we winNaah if Hodge was fit we win
But he wasn't and it cost us.Naah if Hodge was fit we win
How many chances are you prepared to give him ?I understand your position and his behaviour is awful but what’s the alternative? Don’t we need to find a way to get through to young men in this position and isn’t it worth keeping going until we do? Maybe the lifeline of AFL for such a talented footballer is the carrot that is needed to get him to see the light. If not what next he goes into society without really learning the lessons needed how does that go? The ultimate goal surely is he respects women so we should focus on what achieves that aim and total ostracism whilst easy for those disconnected I doubt ends well. He has a lot of ground to make up but I’m in the camp of giving him the chance to do it within strict guidelines.
But he wasn't and it cost us.
Wasn't he also battling gastro?Hodge was simply an all-time big game player.
Two normies, arguably should have been three and he polled in the 2013 GF.
His only blemish was the 2012 GF, which he played on one knee. I remember there being talk about him potentially retiring because of his knee at the end of that season.
If bud had kicked straight, we win
AFL clubs are not obliged to cater for misbehaving players forever, if they prove unable to be rehabilitated there are other pathways to that outside of an AFL club. Being able to play football as a career is a very well paid, high profile privilege - he doesn't deserve what is ostensibly a 4th or 5th chance while being given the privilege of playing AFL footy.I understand your position and his behaviour is awful but what’s the alternative? Brent Guerra more so.Thomas Murphy plays the 2012 GF we win .
The alternative is that he gets to learn away from the spotlight, and isn't seen as a role model for other young menI understand your position and his behaviour is awful but what’s the alternative?
No, that's a role for wider society, not the AFL to implement their own 'reward and rehabilitation' system. An AFL player's life is one of privilege and wealth, and the admiration of many young men. I don't want those young men knowing you can be a shit prick to women, and still lead a life of fame, wealth and acclaim. I want young men to see that you forfeit these things when you act in certain waysDon’t we need to find a way to get through to young men in this position and isn’t it worth keeping going until we do?
So we need to reward him as an incentive to NOT break social rules? Is this a principle we apply to others? Perhaps instead of sending people to prison for murder, we can offer them $600,000 per year for every year they DON'T murder someone else!Maybe the lifeline of AFL for such a talented footballer is the carrot that is needed to get him to see the light. Total ostracism? He's not going to the Gulags...The ultimate goal surely is he respects women so we should focus on what achieves that aim and total ostracism whilst easy for those disconnected I doubt ends well.
Fair enough. If it came across as anything like rewarding or excusing him then I didn’t express myself properly. his behaviour is reprehensible and it does all the good men a total disservice. I was just trying to look at it from the lens of how do we get him to stop being that way. I don’t see how he is allowed back and as you say maybe that’s the right punishment I just hope that wakes him up.The alternative is that he gets to learn away from the spotlight, and isn't seen as a role model for other young men

As for 'going into society', you make it sound as if he has been incorrectly raised by the AFL, and is now being released into society. He has been raised in society already, and he hasn't learned any lessons. He needs to learn these lessons, yes. And unfortunately, he needs to learn them the hard way now.
Total ostracism? He's not going to the Gulags...
He is still in society, hopefully finally getting the lessons that come in society.
What he doesn't have is the life he could have had...one of privilege and status. And I'm fine with that.

He didn't train for 4 weeks came into the grand final completely underdone.Wasn't he also battling gastro?
I've never watched a replay of that game but think the camera at the ground flashed to him eating a banana on the bench
If I wasn’t there ……we win.Naah if Hodge was fit we win

It’s more than just about stopping Thomas. It’s about protecting as many women as possible.Fair enough. For me it's somewhat a blemish on his career but the fact he got away with it 2008 (and win the Norm Smith), of course it was worth rolling the dice. But would be interesting to ask Hodge on this. He's a pretty honest dude, so wonder if he does or doesn't regret playing in retrospectNaah if Hodge was fit we win
Totally agree. Huge loss.Brent Guerra more so.
