I urge people to watch the very first highlight of this video. He stuffs a kick, then runs the 50mtrs to make a contest and make up for the scrubbed kick. That just shows how much he wants to compete and help out the team. On that highlight alone I consider this to be a very astute pick. He looks like a team first player with an aggressive streak. I just can't help myself but dream of him and Apeness just destroying the oppositions morale before the bounce.
The last highlight reminds me of that beast mode rugby kid. Hope he can bring it at AFL level too

Don't post here much anymore, but for what it is worth, I have a close friend heavily involved in elite development within the AFL Under 18s system. He knows a lot of the boys and was pretty impressed with our drafting, especially Sean. Says he is just a belter of a human, not to mention his physical qualities and his attitude. Love hearing this stuff. I think we really put an emphasis on mental aptitude and attitude, which gives our picks every chance of making it.
Having lost 6 of our best clubmen that is not a bad emphasis to have is it.

Really impressed by this guys press conference, seems naturally confident. Last thing we need is a timid ruckman, I think he is going to be the type to make his presence known.

The challenge will be getting that AFL level fitness.
Loved when they asked if he played like Mumford . “It’s really flattering, but I’m Sean, I’m Sean Darcy not Shane Mumford,” Seems sure of himself which is what I like . Looks to have lost 4 or 5 kgs as well since the under 18 footage . Hopefully we've found a gem here . I'm already over my Josh Battle lovefest and am excited to see what Sean can do in an AFL environment.

I have a feeling that battle v darcy will be black v Fyfe all over again.

Or Blakey vs Lamb? With WC having the pick before us, you could also compare both, the reality is
Routham vs our next pick.
C'mon, who the **** is Routham?

This isn't some 'Louge' discussion now..

Speaking of.. I can't wait to see the new Star Wars movie 'Rouge One' in a couple of weeks. :$

I like the pick, keen country boy with the right attitude, I reckon he will grab his chance with both hands and in the right environment I think he will maintain most of his weight but trim down (%BF) and muscle up and become a weapon.

I really liked it when he talked about protecting the midfielders and making them walk a little bit taller. Reminded me of the scene in The Blindside where Michael Oher scored in the 98th percentile for protective insticts.

Protecting midfielders is one thing but crashing into opposition ruckmen (NicNat is one that comes to mind) is what I want to see.

Just did a bit of research on Darcy. His leap was tested in the top 20 TAC player heading into season 2016 and I remember Taylor mentioning he tested well in the jumping activities in the Draft testing. Averaged over 30 hit outs in the state games too. Considering we desperately required an emerging ruckman. Im liking this pick more and more. His leap means Im confident we have not drafted another Jack Hannath. This pick makes more sense then it did at the time of the draft.

Fully agree, I'm more excited about this guy than Logue or Cox (although still pretty excited about them tbh)

Sorry spelling typo, what I was trying to say is that we had two picks just after WC, and it will be
interesting watching how Rotham, Cox careers unfold, is more of a comparison than Darcy.
With the Saints also taking Battle inbetween, didnt Cox also have his number?

Yep, Cox toweled Battle up in U18s. Also, as much as most of us rated Rotham and/or Battle at pick (myself included), most mock drafts had Cox going ahead of one or usually both of them.

Back on topic, I like this kid. It's a bold pick given that no other ruck (except English) went in the main draft, but perhaps that indicates the level of the club's confidence in him rather than misreading the collective (or supposedly Geelong's) perceived value of rucks this year.

I really want him to smash some opposition players up. He has a good tutor:
