Looking at Round 11, both Brisbane and GWS are playing in Melbourne on the Saturday afternoon.

Is it feasible to see a 1:20pm game at Marvel and then a 4:15pm game at the MCG? I'm guessing I'd be missing the end of the first game or the start of the second one way or the other?

In 2022 a couple of friends and I went to the 1:45 Carlton v Fremantle match, followed by the (epic) Geelong v Richmond 4:35 game at the MCG.

One of my mates who is a Cats fan left Docklands early in the last quarter to make sure he got to the MCG on time. The rest of us waited till basically time on of the last quarter before leaving.

If I recall correctly we got a train to the G (can't remember whether we got off at Jolimont or Richmond), and when we arrived Geelong had kicked the first two goals. According to the timeline on the AFL website these both occurred inside the first 4 minutes of the match, so we didn't do too badly.

And we'd had a few by that point too 😅

You have an extra 5 minutes between games this year so you should be alright. Recommend keeping your wits about you and be willing to miss the end of the first game, or the start of the second if the first one is close.

Perfect scenario you can probably get between the two grounds in about 20 mins (walk to Southern Cross train to Jolimont and then walk to the ground - I think thats the fastest option over tram or other train routes). But that's not taking into account where your seats are or getting in and out of the stadium.

Reality is you'll probably have to miss the start or end of one of the games

Thanks, it's good to have first hand confirmation of what I'd expect.

Round 21 is another option but a) it doesn't have a schedule yet, so could be worse? b) it's Lions against the Pies and GWS against the Dogs, both of which are some pretty rival-ish matchups but I suspect tickets will be more difficult to get than GWS v Carlton and us v Hawthorn?

I'd be surprised if any of those games sold out to be honest. I guess your best bet is tickets at the southern end (behind the goals) at Docklands and on the northern (Olympic stand) side at the G.

Now we will find out where your true allegiance lies.

Could've figured out by the Lions guernsey in the finals this year and in 2019.

The audio part in the article link below placed more of a point about the State Government having to find $785 million of the $1.1 billion needed.
But the premier assured Tasmanians they have capped their spending at $375 million.
Before it even starts it is short $410 million. Less what they may get for the sale of land originally estimated at $96 million now magically it is worth $145 million. Even allowing for the higher land figure it is still short $265 million or around 70% more than what they are saying is their capped amount. I doubt the AFL will increase their contribution from $15 million to $280 million. They only paid $200 million for Docklands
..........................................................................

A report by independent economist Dr Nicholas Gruen, released on January 3, found that was an unrealistic timeline for the project.

The deal stipulates the Tasmanian government will need to pay the new AFL club an extra $4.5 million if the stadium build is less than 50 per cent complete by October 2027 — and another $4.5 million if it cannot host matches in the 2029 season.

The Premier said he was being honest with Tasmanians about the cost, and reiterated the state government would cap its spending on the stadium at $375 million.

Last week, former premier Peter Gutwein said it was "obvious" the Macquarie Point stadium could not be built on time.

(Q1) - Who has been the Lions best tallest and shortest players. That being over 200cm and under 180cm
(Q2) - The most underrated player in each category

Q1:
  • I think the best tallest player is pretty easy with Harris well in front of Joe. Eric and Oscar are probably next in line.
  • For shortest its maybe a little harder. Neale is probably the answer but I can see good arguments for Aker or Zorko

Sort of amazing that Jamie Charman doesn't even make the tallest list being a long time ruckman in the 00's.

Also didn't realise that Linc is as short as he is; always thought he was a 180er or thereabouts
And Clark (Mister September) Keating too short. Matty Clarke easily the most under rated in the Bears days. Mitch Clark biggest waste of talent.

Agreed. Most underrated Shaun Hart. Special mention to Adrian Fletcher as both player and father.
Where did we go wrong With Ryan Hooper?
That's an easy one ......... with his Christian Name ....................... :)

To answer my own question.

(Q1) - Best: After much thought i have leant towards Joe Daniher over Harris Andrews who most will pick.
Playing key forward is a harder task than key back in my opinion. That gave Joe the edge for me. Both super players.
(Q1) - Most underrated: Easy pick for me on that. Eric Hipwood. Much maligned player in the media and also with the Lions fans at times.

(Q2) - Best: Much harder this one. I will settle on Zorko even though no Brownlow's to his name. However, goal kicking midfielders are hard to find. Played more midfield time than Aker. Also played in a long period when Lions were crap.
(Q2) - Most underrated: Going Luke Power with this one even though he is a contender for the best. He was surrounded by stars but was super consistent. Just out of the limelight for a long time.

I am sure posters will have different views but there are some great players in the tall and the short of Brisbane Lions past and present.
