He played for Newport last season ? West Coburg before that, a twos players. Have you mixed him up with someone else ?
Ahmed Saad actually played for West Coburg this season in twos but left. Strange that he leaves to go to MV when his brother signed on at Newport (2025) the club he is leaving.

Possibly the best credentialed coaches in the division. Yes Andrew Horne first job but will have his brother and Craig Clinnick, the last two Strathmore premiership coaches assisting him I believe. Different ball game coaching a lot less talented group though.

Coached the last 2 seasons in the VAFA, is far from the most credentialed coach in Div 1… Fantastic assistants, however it’s the senior coach that does the heavy lifting.

Would love to see MV play finals, just don’t see it when have 6-7 others better placed imo.

Think Andrew was playing co-coach at PEGS. Read again I said best credentialed “coaches”.

Avondale in massive trouble, messaging every player regardless of 1s or 2s from all leagues with substantial $$ if they come down. Have lost a lot of players and coaching appointment is hardly anything to get excited by.

Never ends well… double drop looking odds on.
Did Gleeson coach them last year?

You hate hearing about a club doing a double drop.

It makes you wonder how it happens. You'd think most players who played Prem last year would stick around in an easier comp and try for a flag.

They weren’t the worst team to ever be relegated, I’d be blown away if they couldn’t do enough to survive next season. Have they at least retained a core of senior players ?

What can you tell us about the coach ? Never heard of him before, from the other side of the Yarra by the looks of it.

Will be interesting that’s for sure

Teams that have been relegated the last 4 years from premier

2024 AH 1 win percentage 50

2023 Mary 1 win percentage 61 go straight back up

2022 Glenroy 0 wins percentage 44 double drop

2021 Craigieburn 0 wins percentage 19 worst record in premier - still in Div 1

Very early to tell how they will go. Surely their top end talent is good enough to survive.

Who is AH's top end talent?
Also, they have basically no juniors coming through. Most of the good ones have left for nearby Marby or Abers and the ones they have recruited have all gone back to their home clubs.

they may well survive a year or two - but history shows if you aren't contending straight away then you'll languish and probably go down eventually.

Look at Marbys off season last year - went and got Holland as coach and then added 6 top line recruits, plus a few players coming back from long term injuries

Avondales look nothing like that at this stage

Yeah fair call but it doesn’t take much for a club to start spending cash. We have seen this over this off season.

Maybe AH plans are to stay in Div 1 for a couple years to re set then go all out.

That's a risky strategy. From memory WC played AH in a practice match and only just lost.
Would say WC finished the year stronger and AH seemed to go the other way.
That would suggest that if AH played the same players they ended the year with, they'd be mid table (4-6). By the current FB postings, they have lost more than they have gained, while most other lower Div 1 clubs have probably gotten stronger. That puts AH in the lower half if not lower third of the comp on paper.
Only one goes down in 2025, but it's going to be a tough fight for all clubs where last could be on 4-6 wins and still get relegated.
