Does Murphy get to 300?

Yes they may well do that, and it’s an important component, but these days, good skill set, footy IQ and reasonable aerobic capacity are essential.
Murphy may not have had the durability, but Murphy in his prime was far better than Simmos best ever was. Both are champions, but stupid to make a comparison.

Was arguably the best player in the league for a year and has been a durable and loyal and much decorated player for the club. But sadly his defensive side has been brought into question and exposed when the teams broader defensive side has been put under the microscope. I have been a critic of his tackling technique for some time. I hope he gets to 300 but with the team struggling especially defensively he cannot be gifted games. Sad but true
Murphy in his prime was a big reason we did so well in that period and would complement us now so well.
Unfortunately he is so far off that it is not funny and is closer to, if not already, a liability with his non defensive game style.

has been a liability for a couple of years now - especially when removed from his on ball role as his hurt factor is basically nil and therefor doesn't make up for his defensive weaknesses. It was partially allowable when he was racking up getting the ball and having a major offensive impact when he played onball.
With the VFL playing, will Murph play VFL?
Hope he does and shows some form to legitimately be selected back in the ones and get to 300.

I dont see how he will ever come back and fix the flaws in his game - dont get me wrong, the club will bring him back for the 300 , there is nothing surer (have to sell all the murphy 300 paraphernalia they no doubt have already produced) - but he wont come back and put his head over the ball, he wont tackle, he wont stop going to ground as if he has been shot at the first sign of contact and wont quit soccering off the ground - cant teach an old dog new tricks

Agreed, feel the decision to leave him out is partly symbolic of the direction we want to go, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him struggle to get back into our best 22.

Don’t think they were that far off tbh. Murphy’s peak was higher, but it was very short lived. Simpson really should had left off with at least a couple of AA nods, but it’s much harder to nail a HBF position. Far more spots go to midfielders.
Simmo was also still playing decent footy in his final season, while Murphy’s 2020 and 2021 were/are terrible.
Pretty poor form dropping Murphy, this is just teague trying to prove he's not a push over, but seriously playing Cottrell and Levi all year, how can we take team selection seriously. If they were fair dinkum they would drop martin to earn his spot. Murphy had a poor game last week but he wasn't on his own. Why don't they just put him back in the middle where he's played his whole career and see if he can still cut because sure as hell he'd probably do better than the rest of em apart from Walsh cause they have all been deplorable but keep getting games, Cripps included.

Better 50ish games vs higher standard over career
Unless he was rested, surely the only way back from being dropped is via the 2's. If not, it undoes everything they are trying to say by dropping him in the first place.

Because he’s equally as poor when he goes into the middle and doesn’t have the body shape or defensive intent to match it at stoppages anymore?
His biggest strengths used to be his agility and his kicking skills, but both have eluded him and he is also slow of mind and can’t make adaptive decisions hence why he’s been pushed forward.
He is finished as a footballer IMO.

Named in the forward line for the reserves, and he's not an emergency for the seniors.
Only way he dodges a ressies game is if he's sore or sick tomorrow.
Too late for that.
Teague proved he is a pushover by leaving Murphy in for as long as he did.

Great! I hope he helps teach the midfield group.
Will probably tear up the 2s tomorrow in a clear demonstration of the difference between the two levels and the reason why coaches persisted with him VS kids who weren't banging the door down in a comp where the standard is a mile lower.
Development is our major issue.

Good. Hopefully playing a VFL game offends his ego enough that he goes absolutely ballistic on the field. Then we can bring him back in the seniors with a gentle reminder that the same effort is required to keep his spot.
I'm happy for him to get to 300 as long as he's busting his arse.
