Grainger played 3 games for the saints in 1979.

Sounds like a great player who made the difference in a few big games and the losers at that time haven't forgotten.

Don't deny it .... every club ends up with at least one in their history ....

Anyway, that's what I reckon ........

mud n blood

David Grainger was recruited by Port around 1975/6 from St. Kilda, played at mainly Centre Half Forward.

He played the game very hard, and usually outside the laws of the game, but us Port people loved Grave Danger, he was cleared back to St. Kilda for the 1979 season, same year Russell Ebert and Graham Cornes played for Nth. Melb. & Mark Dawson played for Port.

Grainger was then cleared back to Port for the 1980 season, had some suspensions, played in the 1980 & 81 G/F teams, knocked out Neville "Twiggy" Caldwell in the '81 G/F, and tried to kill Glenelg in the '82 Prelim.

Anyway, he says he was acting under instructions from Jack Cahill, probably was, anyway, there is civil actions in the courts now, so some resolution will occur soon.

For all his faults, the man could really play

Easty,

The man has apologized, be it five minutes after, or twenty years....and in the most public of forums.........

Good on him and may he fair well.....

By the way he was the meanest thug I ever saw on a football field...Robbie Muir was an understudy !!!!!!!!

He could play however..but he just had his priorities wrong....

I do consider myself a Victorian; I left Adelaide in 1965. Dad and his brother played for the Bays in the early twenties, which I think was when they were first admitted into the league as a senior side. One of my uncles was club secretary from 1937 to 1946.

I to am a Glenelg supporter and David Grainger deserves everything he gets.David blames Jack Cahill for sending him out on "missions" on the field and being the fall guy well if your prepared to do the crime do the time and whatever that brings with it.Neville Caldwell to this day and beyond still gets migraine headaches due to Graingers on field thuggery so apology not accepted. We have a saying in football "what go`s on the field stay`s on the field" so Grainger stop trying to clear your self off your past and dragging it all up again or you will be seen as a not only as a hit from behind thug but as a dobber on his coach ,team and club

Would you be saying that if carey the fairy went around cleaning blokes up?

Would I be saying what ? That it was weak ?
The question is hypothetical, so it doesn't warrant an answer, but if Carey did it in the way Yates did, I would have to say "Yes".
The reason I thought Yates' effort was weak, was that he lined Dermie up from a "blind spot", and Dermie did not see him coming. Had he knocked him out of the game, it would have been a good tactical move for Geelong, but as it turned out, it backfired, because of Dermie's guts. He certainly showed more than Yates. Dermie flattened plenty of guys in his time, but rarely in the way that Yates tried to get him.
Having said that, I know that Brererton was not "squeaky clean" - far from it, but he always took as much as he dished out, and never squealed about it.

pride of, good on you at least we have one sensible person in here, do you go to many bay games ?

BEE - BROWN IS THE MORON, AND SO IS GRANGER

GRAVE DANGER - TIMMY EVANS WAS KNOWN AS THE LOG ANYWAY , SO WHO CARES WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT DICK, PORT MAGPIES FAN = NO BRAINS

Glenelg. A joke no matter which way you look at it. The jumper is most appropriate with that big yellow stripe on it. Tigers? Pussycats more like.

Port 37 premierships, Glenelg 4

Head to head (all) - Port 157 wins, Glenelg 53

Grand Finals head to head - Port 5, Glenelg 1

And Timmy Evans kicked over 100 goals more than Fred Phillis.

you can have all the flags but no matter how many you have you will always be known as a club with morons supporting it, eg. one day at alberton we saw this minda woman put one finger on a nostril and blow snot all over the concrete of the stand ! how feral is that ! all the minda port supporters seem to swap sides too !
