Well RIP. In one of the hotspots and have come down with some nasty symptoms in the past few hours.
I have known some people who caught the virus. So far, they have all ended well. It needs treatment as soon as possible.

On a brighter note outside of Victoria the rest of Australia recorded zero local transmissions yesterday. The 20 cases outside of Victoria were all fly ins.

The high incidence of virus among the fly ins makes you wonder if people are not sitting in India and waiting until they show symptoms before flying back to Australia for treatment. Given the overstretched medical system in India one cannot blame them. I do not think I would want to be stuck in India waiting for treatment that might never eventuate. Of course the Indian Government is probably glad to get rid of infected people so they are not going to screen evacuees at the departure end and anyone who is infected has the chance to spread the infection while waiting to to board the plane etc.

Then there is the issue of quarantine in Australia which is now in the spotlight, particularly in Victoria. According to the media it may be some months before we know the extent of the cowboy operation that has been going on in Victoria.

Victoria saw a rise in cases so big on the weekend it has the potential to lead to an “explosive” outbreak.

A huge spike in new coronavirus infections in Victoria on the weekend threatens to see the state overtake New South Wales as the part of Australia most stricken by COVID-19.
Worryingly, only a handful of Victoria’s new cases were from overseas travellers in hotel quarantine meaning most infections have come from local community transmission.
Across Saturday and Sunday almost 200 people were confirmed as being infected with the virus. The 108 new cases on Saturday was the second highest daily total of cases in Victoria since the pandemic began.

As NSW have just announced they are closing the border and if things stay that way for more than a month Travis Aulds' promise that Victorian clubs will be back in NSW by round 9 will mean we have an 18 team AFL hub in Victoria.

If the situation in Victoria is the shit sandwich some are predicting and teams cannot FIFO out of Victoria after round 9 they will have to remain in Victoria.

There won't be football in Victoria for the rest of the year. They're desperately clinging onto any hope they can and trying to sell that hope to the players, but this thing is getting worse before it gets better and nobody is going to mess around until they're firmly on the other side of it.

The other thing is, once restrictions continue to ease, the crowds are back, players can actually train and aren't treated like prisoners with strict rules, etc, a lot of the players may in fact actually prefer not to go back to Victoria.

Not according to the AFL.

Melb clubs likely to hub the rest of the year I think.
Like I said earlier Andrews has to go stage3 lockdown like before. Yes the economy will be cactus but he has no choice in fact it might be taken out of his hands with scomo coming over the top and making it happen. Grand final in wa or nsw this year

And less than 2 weeks ago the AFL scheduled us to play St Kilda at Emptyhad, even when the writing was well and truly on the wall.

Things can and will change and the AFL and the rest of the Victorians will be the last to realise it.

Just cancel the season if things get out of hand

There are 7 states and territories where this thing is well and truly under control, all of which will soon be able to host teams and games without restrictions and with full or relatively full crowds - why would you cancel the season?

Don't listen to auld if the vics are in lockdown there will be no games/ training no groups of 5 or more etc. They won't be going back to Melb anytime soon

It has not reached that stage yet. For that to happen the entire State would have to go back to stage 3 restrictions and politics should tell us that Andrews will only do that if people start to die. Andrews may expand the designated hot spots and apply Stage 3 restrictions to those hot spots but there will be enough non affected areas for AFL teams to train and play in.

Why they want to rush back to Victoria I do not know because in the current climate they are hardly likely to be playing in front of crowds anytime soon.

127 new cases in Victoria. Sadly the highest ever daily increase.

34 linked to existing outbreaks, 40 from testing sites and from GPs and 53 from the housing towers.

Season is doomed then. Start playing the kids.

The AFL would literally rather kill an entirely salvageable season rather than see the Victorian clubs be inconvenienced.
