The ability to step up and take over from others when they aren't up to it.

Also that growth bit.

What particular growth bit? What are the actual benefits and costs to that to your average Joe?

An article from a Victorian about how Victoria stuffed up.

Lays a lot of the blame on the private security guards engaged to keep an eye on overseas travellers in hotel quarantine. The Feds offered the states highly trained military teams to take charge of the hotels. NSW said yes and no cases were transferred to the community. Victoria said no and now its in trouble.

Yet another example of how politics, and in particular state/federal political manoeuvring, gets in the way of delivering the right outcome. We saw this during the bushfires too. It's about time our national emergency laws trumped any of this petty party rivalry. At the same time the Andrew govt was mired in its own internal wranglings and clearly took its eye off the ball.

Andrews has called for an independent review into the private security guards saga. Let’s just see how much blame is put on the Vic government. I know what I’m expecting

Wow total lockdown of several
Residential towers in Melbourne now. 500 police to be deployed and health staff. No one to leave for at least 5 days.
Getting serious and messy.

*NINE entire Housing Commision towers locked down. Police stationed on every floor.

If it was private security there would be a baby boom in Melbourne in 9 months.

Andrews is creating a review industry!

Andrews has no choice he will need to go lockdown statewide like the country was before. He can't just do certain areas or even all of Melb as some will flee to country areas.
Unlikely to be any football in Melb this year. All finals and gf outside of Melb. Vic clubs will have to stay in hubs. And kiss goodbye to the Melb cup.
Economic wise victoria will be damaged big time they will take longest to recover.

There is no way that the hubs will be over in 32 days. Victorian clubs will be stuck outside of Victoria for at least the next 8 weeks at beast.

Unfortunately it will continue to grow for a while. You will not see a drop in cases for at least another 10 days if the lockdown is working.

I'm not implying that you agree with waiting 10 days, but if they continue to experiment with the postcode by postcode lockdown then not only Victoria, but the whole country, is in for a world of pain. It didn't work in Lombardy, it wont work now.

The experiment is over, the entire state needs to go back to Stage 3.
That worked before, it will again.

Next national cabinet is scheduled for next Friday, I really hope they do not delay until then.

Totally agree. 10 days is far too many days to gamble it’s success. Unfortunately unlike the rest of the country, a percentage of Victorians have not taken restrictions and compliance to these restrictions as seriously as others in the community. They are now seeing an explosion of cases due to this.

The wailing and gnashing of teeth of the Vic teams will soon be echoing all over Oz at that prospect. How the hell is Richmond expected to cope without game after game after game at the G?

This is now at the critical stage for Victoria. The big issue is not the number of cases but the community transmission which has risen to over 100 cases in three days. That is over double the transmission rate when the entire State was in Stage 3 lock down in early April.

This attitude really annoys me...

Are these people that stupid that they cannot see the desperate situation the State of Victoria faces? It seems that all they can see is 'me and my rights' and not the safety of the rest of the community. If some immigrants are intimidated by a justifiable police presence in an emergency situation then maybe Australia is not the place for them?
