Is anyone ready to ask questions of what McQualter and the blokes that hired him saw in the list and how that could be converted into a sustainable, competitive game plan? Too soon? Is it lazy just to say this game plan is all he knows so that’s what he’s trying to implement despite the list not being suited to it?

Should we have drafted and traded for footballers who can kick, handball and stick a tackle rather than for athletes and players that bring intangibles such as leadership and standards?

Game plan doesn't matter so much at this stage. By the time we have a team ready to compete (i.e. where Adelaide and GC are now), the whole game plan landscape will probably change.

We just need to draft high end midfield talent. Think we can get that with mid teen picks is delusional.

It’s not just game plan it’s also the players. Drafting footballers to play football would be a start and absolutely at the point end. Need to facilitate Oscar getting to his destination of choice, not a shadow of doubt for me anymore after watching that.

Tim Kelly contract ends this season and apparently with the information out there, he is on a fairly large salary. Has he done enough to 1) retain his services and 2) and if accepted, is he even worth 500k+ next season ?

He is playing like a man that wants out and Im not sure if he would get accepted anywhere else given his desire to be at home. TK is 30 years old and has lost considerable pace and already shown/expressed a lack of desire.

We've played 2 top 4 teams (pushed the lions) and 2 top 8 teams, rough start, im assessing from here

Yep round 10 will be the first assessment stage imo. If it’s 0-10……

4 ‘winnable’ games incoming
Rd 6- Essendon at home
Rd 8- Demons at home
Rd 9- Richmond away
Rd 10- Saints at home

Hopefully Yeo, Gov and Waterman back for the last 3.

Just not what sure other magnets can be thrown into the middle where our biggest issues are. Some on here last off season argued we had enough midfield depth. Geez it’s empty.

We should go back dow the Alex Davies' road won't crack a gig at GC at the rate they're going. Also, when is Will Graham's rookie contract up? We should be offering some coin to pry him.

Get dom brew on the phone bring him in as a stop gap for 3 or 4 years to mentor the young guys dudes a monster

Alex Davies probably doesn't move the needle, no better than any of our draftees except older.
Will Graham 2027.
GC team of midfielders are loaded and they have another couple of new draftees to roll through the next couple of years, as well they have several and probably another 2-3 midfielders as Academy picks this year.
Anderson, Rowell, Miller are their prime mids, Flanders is their 4th with Humphrey & Graham starting to rotate thru.
I would throw a contract at Flanders.

There was a lot too like today from the U22 age group and it highlights some really nice quality players we have coming along, unfortunately it exposed a group that are not up to the quality of AFL standard and there will be some real hard decisions on list management over the next 2-3 years.
The immediate issue is our midfield which we all know, A grade draftee needed and Warner and B grade mid traded in 2025, KDEF which is a work in progress to replace another couple of great players for our club in Barrass(traded) and Gov who has maybe this year and next.

List Management:
2025:
Jamieson - delist
Chesser - delist/trade
Sheed - retire
Petch - trade RFA
Rawlinson - delist
Kelly - if form continues it will be hard for Kelly to get anything more than a 1 year contract, depending on Warner trade and ability to get another B+ mid through trade 2025.
Brockman - survives getting a 1 or 2 year deal until SF players go past him
Cripps - deserves a 1 year contract

2026:
Hunt - delist
Barnett - delist
Brockman - probably gets another short term contract
Flynn - delist if Ruck can be traded in
Cripps - depending on form 1 year extension
Gov - depending on injuries 1 year extension
Livingstone - depending on form and and list need a 1 year extension

I'd keep Barnett around a little bit longer. He was rated the best ruck in his draft class and very rarely do rucks come in and tear the house down immediately. That being said I don't watch WAFL and his stats always look so pedestrian, hell, even Flynn had like 20 disposals and 50 hit-outs this week did he not?

So any one got the low down on the Messiah, C. Warner being subbed off yesterday?

2 goals is nice, but 10 disposals and zero tackles is nothing to sell the farm on

He was Kpd yesterday, wasnt bad still learning

Only disagree on this one, he has been fairly good as a KPD and im still not positive his time as a ruck has gone, hes only just sort of figure out how to be a pro
He would want to break out soon, OOC 2026 so has a bit of time.
From all reports he was over the pre-season but watching him in WAFL yesterday he makes a lot of mistakes.
I think A Reid has gone past him in the ruck already but he would be on the delist group if we could trade in a decent FB type who is 22-24yo to partner Brock and whoever develops.

Barnett OOC 2026 so I would give him till then, he needs to develop rapidly into a viable FB.
I feel he is already surpassed by A Reid in the ruck and Brock looks a decent CHB type.
His WAFL games at FB have been nothing of note.
