Ok let’s put it out there.

Who plays football first in 2025?

Campbell Chesser (currently 5-7 weeks)
or
Elliot Yeo (currently 4-5 weeks)

Selected at any level.

I know who I’m betting on.
Given Yeo has completely stalled in his recovery, and weighted on recent seasons - it'll be Chesser.

extremely foolish the club yielded and offered him 3 years.
Club can't win sometimes TBF.

Don't offer Yeo a 3 year deal and he goes.
"What's going on at WC, everyone wants out".

Offer him a longer contract.
"Why are WC offering injury prone players long deals"?

That's exactly how it will play out with OA.
Whatever decision we make, we will get smashed.

Yeo is crucial, still offers something in the middle, a mid leader, wouldn't write him off so quick. How long he lasts before another injury is the thing.

Obviously Chesser's injuries haven't given him much of an opportunity since Mini arrived. Also wouldn't write him off yet. If he gets match fit and gets a few games chalked up, might prove to be a solid contributor, with his pace in Mini's game style. He's played 32 games, but shifting roles and patchy performances. Just feel he needs a good run at it, in a settled role. Offers another pacey mid option, instead of the graveyard wing, has the build.

"... Having overcome injury woes to begin his career, Chesser has exhibited his line-breaking pace in glimpses after being a highly-rated junior athlete before he was drafted. Has a bright future ahead and could be looking for more inside midfield opportunities under new senior coach Andrew McQualter as he hones his craft and builds his confidence at the elite level.." (club spin)

Classic West Coast not predicting Yeo getting an impact injury

Yeah yeah, impact injury, so unpredictable.

What isn’t unpredictable is a glacial recovery time from any injury and 4 solid years of barely playing leading up to a 3 year deal - which was seemingly based on a burst of form at that start of 2024.

It wasn’t a good signing for the club but they did what they had to do to keep him I guess.

Hewett available
McGovern a test but expected to be available
Jamieson a week away
Chesser a week closer
Yeo’s recovery stuck in quicksand at 4-5 weeks for the 3rd or 4th week running

For those playing at home, these are the time frames given for Yeo in the official injury updates:

4/3: 6-8 weeks
11/3: 5-7 weeks
18/3: 5-6 weeks
25/3: 4-5 weeks
1/4: 4-5 weeks
8/4: 4-5 weeks
15/4: 4-5 weeks

The original injury was on 24/1 - about 11-12 weeks ago - if he progresses from here it’ll a 15-16 week recovery

Based on the original estimate on 4/3 he’d be available this week (best case) or at most 2 weeks away so he’s at least 2-3 weeks behind what had been hoped/expected initially

Quite brutal that Yeo is the player just stuck on the distant horizon of availability. Really does feel like the one we could use the most right now.

Would be better off being basically anybody else…but it’s hardly a surprise.

They should be leaning on him to retire if he can’t get back this season - clear 2 years of wasted time and money off the salary cap.

Or maybe someone ‘in the window’ would trade for him under the illusion that he could stay fit?
