Well this seems irresponsible. Kind of morbidly fascinating though. I keep thinking back to that brief media clip from a few days ago where Clarke managed to present as both foolish and conceited, a dangerous combo it turns out!

Have no issue with the commitment ideal, it is part of the game now, particularly with clubs putting time and work into players and player managers over years, targeting etc.

Liam wanted to play for us and we wanted him. The commitment was to get a deal done to ensure that.

What wasn’t required was the complete overpayment that took place, considering we were dealing with an out of contract 27yo role player, with respect to Liam not exactly a star of the competition.

Very amateurish and disappointing :(

It will be on Don and Clarke in the end, they have a lot of work to do to regain faith. If the rebuild fails, they should be first out the door.

Some like who?

not that I want specific names or anything, but what does it mean for it to be 'all Clarke'? Given the unanimous reactions it's obvious that there'd be some people 'within' the club feeling the same.

Now you know I won't answer that here.

Just been told by industry sources and maybe Matt Clarke himself that we will be shipping pick 12 and a future second to North for a player called Jack Darling and dfa Curtis Taylor!!

Fantastic melts by all, agree the deal stinks, but I'll be devils advocate here...

Maybe the club are using this year to try and plug that mid range age bracket. 3 seasoned players, although not world beaters, will help short term. We have bought in alot of youth the past few drafts.

Anyway, deals done.

Welcome the new lads, wishing them all the success

Well, Pyke did mention in passing that we'd like to get more picks inside the top 25-30 this year and that "we're not finished yet"

That probably all hinges on a Barrass deal getting done sooner rather than later and I don't know if that will happen until closer to the deadline

This is probably it boys...

Pick 12 and 26 in an absoutely stacked draft class

I guess I hope we draft Xavier Lindsay now? Moraes with pick 26? Who the **** knows

I see it as Clarke/Mini/Pyke placing a value of our pick downgrade from 3 (plus crumbs) to 12, to instantly benefit our training standards, on-field leadership, coaching of new game plan, competition for spots, and perhaps, whilst not given, more wins in the short term (per recent output of baker and owies).

Whilst my thoughts align with most, that taking pick 3 or splitting for higher draft capital without trading it away for players who likely won’t be part of our next flag, player development in recent years has been sub-par to say the least, and this move buys Mini/Woosh a year longer rectify that issue whilst ensuring the team remains competitive without burning other young draftees.

Think most agree we need the mature bodies in that age bracket. Cannot have a side of entirely teenagers. No one denies that. Graham, Baker and Owies immediately improves the quality of our list overall. All three walk into the best 22/23. Ideally, all three also have three or more seasons of AFL-level football in them.

The problem is the price paid for the latter two overall.

They are, as with Dev possibly coming in too, but we could have had all of these guys without moving off of Pick 3.

I hate almost all of this, but the thing I hate the most is going out and recruiting a small forward. forwards (big and small) are the only position on the field we actually have any depth what so ever, if Owies was a precision kicking halfback flanker I'd be a heck of a lot less mad.

We needed a draft hand like Richmond is going to have, and with no Baker or Owies, and TB going out for a fair price we could have had it. Sigh.

I guess I'll just go back to telling my 6 year old we haven't always been terrible. and promising one day we might not get obliterated when I take him to a game.

I look forward to Liam Baker and Owies retiring while Draper starts reeling off all Australian nods year after year. Good work

Yeah look in three years time there will be Harley Reid and a void of mids. Going to have a worse time then Gaz at gold coast suns.

I actually feel so bad for him to the point where him leaving is actually good for his mental health.

We are ****ed. If there was a better time for Phil to burn the bridge with the club again now is the time.

As for Baker he deserves what's coming to him. His sentence about wanting richmond to compensated needs to be plastered everywhere.

I envision our fans booing the club melb style when they walked off the ground.

The worse feeling is completely realising we are going to be in a wasteland for the next 6 years

Baker in the midfield will make Reid, Hewitt and Kelly better players - the best I can think of is the mix that Stenglein added in the 2005/6 team. Stenglein in his own right was an average accumulator but did a better job of defensive structure than anybody. Mini is probably looking at blokes who know the game plan and can help to implement it.

I like this traed more than most - draft picks are over rated.
Bakers not a midfielder

He’s an undersized half forward to can go in for a few minutes

Think Baker is the type that will want to repay the faith.

The fact he was an Eagle fan is a bonus.

Him and Snake can combine for the snake and bake shake

I think the issue most have is that, while we do need the mature bodies, we could have picked them up in the next draft for almost nothing. We had the opportunity to build a side with 2 gun mids in it by keeping pick 3, and f*cked it all up.
