I think he's more like a newer Tom Mitchell ball magnet type. Not fast, just racks up possessions.

His knocks will pace and size.
For McGuane’s sake I hope not. That style of footballer has a small window of success 15 years on from Mitchell’s draft year. Fin Macrae’s another in that ball magnet mould who’s not fast or big and racks them up. I’d like the Jets and Metro to use him off half back or a wing this year so that he has the broadest possible positional scope before entering the system.

Here is what he said in an interview where he would play.

Q: What kind of role will you play this year?

TM:
At the Jets I’ll probably predominantly play on-ball. Hopefully if I play in the Metro side, it might be a bit of a mix between midfield, wing and half-forward. It’ll be very interesting, I’m looking forward to it.

He's a bit more versatile, though he did average 18 contested possessions last year. But he's smart. Can play wing, half forward. He would make it a focus to put on some size this year and work on more the contested side of the game.
*uncontested.

I’d imagine increasing his contested numbers would be a focus this year having already proven he can rack it up on the outside.

Yes, my bad. Somehow must have misread that.
Its not like he didn't have a go last year, but probably didn't have the size to be able to it as much.

It’s a hard one for him. There’s no role at Collingwood in the short term on the inside for him because he’s to small to pair with Nick, but his draft stocks probably take a “hit” if he shifts to a predominantly outside role that will suit the transition better because doesn’t have electric pace.

There’s a forward mid role potentially available over the next few years as Elliott nears the end or on the wing depending on the restructure post Steele. For now though I’d be targeting a role on the flanks early at Collingwood and a role that helps that craft as a Jnr. For example the type of stuff we’re currently seeing from Hayes.

The contest stuff will come with time in the system if it’s going to get there so I wouldn’t be worried if his contest numbers are poor this year.

I won’t be worried either way, from what I’ve seen of him so far he looks a beauty, I think his bottom age year was underrated tbh because people focused on his size too much.

But from the sounds of it Mick is very similar to Peter in that he’s been instrumental in his sons development (moreso even given his Keilor coaching role) and I can’t imagine that they haven’t been prepping him for more contested work this year given he’s apparently going to be predominantly on-ball at the Jets.

His outside numbers from 2024 compare well with Nick and considering he was bottom age mixing it with top age guys from supposedly one of the stronger drafts that was a bit of a funny one.

If Lonie suddenly becomes draftable it makes things interesting. Particularly if he manages to push up in to second round contention.
Yeah, we'll need to crunch the numbers and find a lot more points than we currently have.
Late 2rd or 3rd round would be better.

Aidyn McCarroll at 210cm is an interesting prospect

He did say he should be able to play some games. But generally kids in their draft year tend to play in the 2nd half of the year.
Nick played early on in the VFL unless my memory is playing tricks on me?

Having so many byes early on would be the perfect opportunity to get some VFL in to Tommy imo.
