Asia China's growing influence

Do you have any idea how interconnected our defence industry is with our current allies, but yep let’s get rid of that and ally with Laos.

That’s an utter misrepresentation of what I’m saying. What about Indonesia, 4th largest country on the world and the country we share our border with? Are they afraid of being attacked by China? Is Malaysia, Thailand?

And isn’t all the talk about “diversity” in the economy? All the China hawks complaining about too much reliance on China but have no issue with Australia basically becoming part of the US military.

Let’s see how the hawks justify that if/when Trump invades Greenland or Panama (which I think looks like likely). How the F can you justify US troops in Australia then?

Well according to JD Vance the Chinese people are just “peasants”.

Sure, with China producing 30x more scientists and engineering graduates than America if be careful who I’d be calling peasants JD, especially considering your stated goal is to turn Americans into low paid sweatshop factory workers. Then Americans can be China’s actual “peasants”.
Picture this.
Trump slaps large tariffs on China in order to get the American companies to exit from China and set up manufacturing on US soil.
An American tradie needs another Milwaukee drill. Last month it would have cost $50. This month it costs $100. The tradie can't move to another brand because she has got quite a lot Milwaukee tools, batteries, and chargers. It would cost her plenty to move to DeWalt, AEG, etc. The cheaper Ryobi shit just won't cut it.
Milwaukee in China slow production because of falling sales and they realise they have to set up shop in the US to re-establish their market share. So, back to the US they go.
They need workers, but US workers needing a job, and there will be plenty of them, accept low pay and no conditions because that's what's on offer, and Milwaukee has to satisfy the share market and its investors.
So now we have all the Trump voting rednecks in the US working for the proverbial "bowl of rice a day".

That, in a nutshell, is Trump's plan. And the American Idiots have fallen for it hook, line and sinker because of their nationalism.

They truly are brain dead and will lap up any drivel presented to them that makes daddy Trump look like their hero,

Take this for example (pretty obvious I don’t endorse this crap):

Anyone who’s sat through about 5mins of an economics lecture can see what she is saying is just utter nonsense, but they conservatives lap it up because it makes them feel good. That have been fooled to think working a $3 an hour sweatshop factory job will “make America great again”.

It’d be just laughable and hilarious if what these pond scum did to themselves didn’t spill over to have a negative effect on the global economy.

But sorry, China stupid and bad………

Defence and economy (trade really) are different.
Defence slow moving, highly interdependent.
Trade is more nimble.
An absolutely reasonable position is that we retain our defence alliance with the west. We decouple our reliance on China and diversity trade relations. We also increase investment in sovereign capability where that makes financial and social sense.
Your proposal to reposition our alliance to ASEAN countries and become more economically connected to China offers some benefit, but much more downside.
I also never posted anywhere that I fear China invading Australia, so not sure why you are including that in your post.
The US is already making the moves it needs to in Panama with a US consortium buying out the HK one.
I’ll wait and see on Greenland, that whole thing is bizarre.

And sorry just to add and for clarity, I’m not some US or Trump supporter. I disagree with the US position on a lot of things;
What they are doing with trade wars right now
Their negligence towards environmental progress
Their political system in general
Their support of Israel
Wars and aggression generally
Etc..

Taiwan have arrested the Chinese captain of a cargo ship that they believe damaged undersea cables. They have had 5 episode already this year of damaged cables. There were 3 episodes each in 2024 and 2023.

They've been on the case for a while.

This is not the way for China to get a trade deal with the UK by threats.
That's not a threat. The Brits announced the shut-down of steel making, Chinese suppliers stopped supplying raw materials ahead of the govts schedule

China doesn't care about the UK, tiny isolated market and they're still salty about the opium wars

So China won't be sending any of their cheap tat there which will delight UK consumers.

The title says it all in this article.
There may be significant truth in authors proposition.

Why do some so-called antiimperialists give a free pass to the PRC's dreams of annexing Taiwan?
It's an artefact of an unfinished civil war. It's literally ROC policy that the whole of the mainland belongs to them.

Australia, nor any major country recognises them as a proper state. It's inevitable that they will be unified in some respect, you want to die over this?

Is there anyone outside of the CCP who agrees with this position?
I'm not aware of any.

And in today’s edition of the “art of the deal”:

Mine? Nah, just that poster that has been posting (regularly) Australia should ditch the US for the CCP. I’d rather we stay away from both at the moment.
Is it realistic to say that we can stand alone? We can balance one vs the other maybe while building drone and missile self defence maybe

We cannot disconnect from the US when it comes to defence, not in the near term anyways. No need to do something like AUKUS though
