I do find it ironic (and amusing) that the posters who have gone varying degrees of apeshit over our performance this year, which btw has been our best start to a season for yonks, are the very one's who are expecting us to beat an outfit who played in last year's GF and who are still pretty stacked with talent.

Are they fair dinkum?

Or are they just setting up their next round of rants?
I can't speak for said posters, but the reason why I am optimistic about this week's game is the fact we've gone close against Sydney several times over the last couple of years, and our current squad is clearly better. Yes they have plenty of talent but if you analyze them closely last season, despite them finishing clear on top of the ladder, it was mostly down to Gulden, Heeney and Warner having a very consistent season. The minute even one of them was having a bad game, they struggled. This season under Cox they are yet to click into gear with their scoring being an issue.

They would still start favorites of course but if we can bring the same intent as our last game at Marvel, we will give it a good shake.

I know he needs to build an AFL body, but every sign says this kid is ready to play now mentally and fitness wise - it will be interesting to see if the club just bites the bullet sooner rather than later.
You also have to have a spot and a role for him. With Logue available, you'd think if we were to drop Pink, it would be for Logue. Corr and Comben won't be dropped. Can Whitlock play the Archer role? If so, could come in for Tucker

I see Whitlock in more of a Tucker spot anyway. In as a distributor of HB - if we can bring in Sheezel or McKercher in Year 1 to be a clean attacking player no reason we can't bring a skinny KP sized bloke either (if he has the toolset).

I'm concerned that if Xerri gets injured, we have Darling as our ruck option, with Cam probably as backup. I reckon that we do need a second ruck in the team, noting though that change will give us less run, and that Teakle's form last week wasn't great.
Teakle was decent could’ve had a big day

Shared the ruck with Goad pretty evenly

Got 16 touches 1 goal 4 and 21 hitouts

If he does that in the seniors helping xerri and darling that would be huge

This is why playing Whitlock in tuckers role can allow Chom to go into the ruck if needed.

Gives us an extra tall that moves as well as Tucker / Lmac

That's fair enough, but whenever Charlie goes near the ball or another player, I'm still afraid he'll break

Teakle is break in case of emergency status. If Xerri gets injured. Don’t play them both it’s unnecessary.

Whitlock on the other hand I reckon swing him back and forward as necessary. Just get a few sneaky games into him.

Darling rucking, swing him forward, resting ruckman, swing him back. He’s young and no need to pigeon hole him.

Logue will be back, give him 1-2 games in the 2’s first.

Perfect chance for Whitlock to get a small taste of everything. Then send him back to work on whatever is required, or keep him in if he performs.

Whitlock in gives us the flexibility to move Comben (or Logue) forward if we need, plus he also looks a level or two above Tucker in class as a running type. I'd probably keep Phillips in to run with Warner and drop Tucker but could go either way.
I don’t think Phillips would be able to keep up with Warner.

I've seen multiple posters suggest dropping Zurhaar this week, and i just don't see it. Poor game on the weekend, but 20 and 4 against Melbourne with 5 coaches votes and an almost game in round 1. Wouldn't be in the first 5 players i'd drop
Zero chance and it would be entirely stupid. Our transition from HB to HF again fell over last week and it makes it a very tough job to be a forward.

had a look at training
Up close Hansen is taller than you think
In the match sims he is very evasive
adds something different
Definitely has Best 22 skills

Squad was looking v fit
Logue serious half ground runs

Goat looking good doing laps Some competitive drills
Arch is filling out, he is no kid this year
And Zane is a good size, he ain’t skinny now whether he can run enuf I dunno but very clean

I expect if Logue is fit he plays

Corr is a good trainer was upping the vibe which was good
Definitely serious competition for spots so it looked fairly intense
