Strategy Changes: Round 4 Fremantle vs. Western Bulldogs

Just threw this hypothetical out there to a couple of work colleagues this morning.

Say Voss gets his act together this weekend and it all clicks for him and he and JT kick 5 each.

Do we keep him in the team when Swaggy comes back against the Tiges and if so, who gets dropped?

Darcy will need more than one run at Peel.

But apart from gal kicking Voss has had more of the footy than Amiss.

If Voss kicks a bag before Darcy is ready to return it makes life difficult for match committee.

It's not like Bevo was rife with other options. If Allen towled up Amiss or Treacy on Sunday would we be calling McQualter a super coach?
Not one person on here on anywhere else to my knowledge was advocating for Lobb to go back. JLo has his limitations but you can't judge him on this with the benefit of hindsight.

Could say the same for Freo last year with Chapman, Cox, Pearce and McDonald missing a lot of footy.

Did we try Voss/Amiss/Treacy/Sturt/Jackson back?

Not really, Voss has butchered it and played up the ground more plus ruck. Amiss has been playing deeper so less possessions but has been building. The Amiss bag in the Derby has put on hold any difficult decisions.

Im sorry, but this is a ridiculous argument. We were third on the ladder until we lost a key forward, number one ruck, and a key back.
I'm happy for Lobb and the Bulldogs that it worked out for them, but it has no bearing whatsoever on JL or his coaching.

Lobb was struggling as a forward at Freo.. it surprises me that Longmuir never even considered it whilst he was here.

Lobb was structurally our most important player forward of the ball. I maintain this a ridiculous hindsight excuse to pile on.

Unless you want to show me your posts from the time calling for Lobb to play defence? Then I'll happily concede the point.

You'd also have to believe Tabs could have carried us beyond a semi final of course.

You'd be looking for a time when Lobb wasn't our most productive forward, we had tall forwards in the WAFL just gagging for an opportunity and the key defenders were injured. The last one should be easiest to find. I think the other forwards did not exist.

Treacy kicked 1 goal in 2022. Amiss missed most of the year to injury, kicked 4. Taberner was 28 and our 5th highest goal kicker for the year at 23.

We tried Draper instead and he turned out great. Davies got a go too and we still had a key back who didn’t get a game in the two’s. It seems our list management is a bit more balanced than the Bulldogs or maybe it’s just stacked with KPD’s so even 3 injuries means we have cover.

Jojo from the restump podcast was calling for Treacy to move back before we gave Draper a crack. He then turned into the Beast in front of our eyes. Sometimes not making the big move pays massive dividends too.

Just goes to show how stubborn and unimaginative JLo is as a coach. He never would’ve even considered sending Lobb back.
why would he? Lobb was a very solid forward and ruck chop out for us in a time when we were desperate for a key forward and had good stocks down back. what a strange criticism to make

Anyway, who's gonna shut down Libba? Johnson, Fyfe?

Our game plan should negate him, we are a clearance beast of a team so let's just take him out using our strength. The tag should go to one of the runners like Dale or Richards IMO, they are more likely to hurt our style.

no bont should have us +35 disposals and 3 goals on our regular form against the doggies.

libbas a beast but theyll be down two of their main movers in the guts so our boys should be able to dominate the middle which is basically our only chance at winning this game. Dale should be tagged as well to limit their rebound off the half back. double team darcy and let naughton spray them all night

this. they're good in the transition.

two of their strongest ball-winners are out and, when focused, our clearance game is good.

it's their movement we have to negate, not the contest at stoppage; we're always in that (with Treloar and Bont out, Macrae gone to Saints).

we stop them moving inside to out we're right in this.

Struggling? Hardly. He was doing well. Career high in goals, contested marks.
The structure was around him and Tabs.

Without Darcy, Young and Fyfe (or another big body), I am not sure we are a clearance beast of a team. Lost the clearances to Sydney quite badly, marginal win for clearances against Geelong and big win last week for what that is worth. I guess we might see on Sunday.

Well then we are ****ed either way against the Dogs. If we put too much time into Libba they will absolutely carve us on the outside. Our game style revolves around winning the clearances and I haven't seen a plan B from JLo yet.
