Gibbs plays this week for me.

He's had his time out and completely dominated his last SANFL game

He adds more than Wilson but should come in for Makay.

Stengle stays is, so if the must bring in Eddie it is Murphy.

Fog should be playing but he wont.
Is Eddie for Murphy an upgrade? I see it as re-arranging the deck chairs.

Gibbs has had so many chances this year that he needs a lot more than just one good game before I'd consider selecting him again.

Think the value in Betts is, regardless of form, he draws the best small defender and would think it's not something St Kilda has an abundance of.

Murphy is only just getting by atm, for all his pressure, there is a lot of broken tackles and is largely limited by his size in marking contests. Think Betts and Stengle is worth persisting with.

Betts and Stengle haven't been tried this season. They did try the 2 of them along Murphy for 1 game against GCS.

My changes would be

Out Atkins Knight Mackay Jenkins Wilson
In Jones Gooch Hberg Fog Davis

Change the structure a bit and have Tex and Fog play 50/50. Tex is still.good early but fatigued late. Even play them on the ground together with Lynch pushing up a bit more. A forward line of Hberg, Tex, Fog Murphy and Stengle should work.

Davis at HB.

Jones and Gooch part.of the midfield rotation.

Add Otto to the outs, with Butts to play as the third tall defender. There's no real need for a third key defender against the Saints, but it gives him a taste at the level. No point wasting games on Otto.

Tex out instead of JJ for me, he's clearly hampered by the elbow.

Of course. I was more alluding to the fact that Murphy is seemingly the 1st picked out of the 3. Don't particularly mind the 3 of them in the same side, but think that it should have been experimented against more than just GC.

Bit of a shame really. Hart mentioned in a press conference that they wanted to see what the forward line would like with 3 smalls.

It's really just another case of BS quotes being made up to roll out after selection.

I'm not questioning the idea of dropping Murphy. He just doesn't hit the scoreboard often enough - think Petrenko Mk II.

The problem is that Betts himself is completely cooked. I love Betts, but the reality is that he's been in terminal decline for more than 2 years now (since the 2017 mid-season break). Bringing Betts back into the side isn't a solution. It's just replacing one "not good enough" player with a "no longer good enough" player.

Replacing Murphy with Betts doesn't make the side better, and it's not investing games into a kid who could improve and fill the role in the longer-term. If we're not improving the team, and we're not making long-term investments, then what's the point in making the change?

Saints are just a game + % out of the 8. After us they have Freo, Carlton and Sydney.

If they can squeeze past us they will be a good chance to finish on 12 wins. Very competitive for 8th.

What they have got is one of the best coaches in the AFL IMO and they will be highly motivated.

Be surprised if we win this one
That's why we'll win I reckon

Suddenly things have opened up for the Saints. Ooooh! We could make the eight.

They aren't seasoned, successful pros. They'll succeed when they're underdogs with nothing to play for. Bottle it when they could achieve something.

We'll pull off an unimpressive 21 point win I reckon.

The Betts comment was only if they must.

Gibbs has put 3 good games together, the last which was clearly dominant.

He is AFL quality, if the head space is right now you pick him.

Tenth time is a charm

OK. He's AFL quality, but his performances this year have not been. If he's done the work required, and fixed his deficiencies, then he can come back in.

So going by no one on the injury list inc Walker being available and ROb failing his concussion test we look quite thin in the SANFL and could lose to West

He got dropped after playing well, it's clearly more than a footy issue.

People need to stop looking at disposal counts when saying that a player is "playing well". Gibbs was dropped because he wasn't working hard enough when the opposition had the ball. If he's not meeting his KPIs in that regard, he won't be coming back no matter how many disposals he has in the SANFL.

Remember when Brad Crouch was coming back from injury? He'd regularly pick up 30+ in the SANFL, and the BF observers called for his immediate return. The selectors agreed, and he failed dismally at AFL level. He needed to do a lot more work in the SANFL before he was really ready to play AFL again. I think Gibbs' situation is similar.

Wasn't working hard enough..... That's a cop out and you know it. If that were the case the whole side would be dropped.

In fact, if you believe almost anything coming from a coaches mouth down there I'd be worried.

Bingo. We seem obsessed with ‘deep’ forward 50 entries because we’re scared of being slaughtered on the rebound if we turn it over around the 50m line. So we just bang it onto the foot and launch it right towards goal, making it easy for the opposition to rush a behind, or use their extra number (because we love throwing extra bodies at the contest) to intercept.

Funnily enough, this reminds me of a former coach who talked about the value of deep entries...
Deep entries are under appreciated in my opinion.

I love the conspiracy theory bullshit which gets floated around here, and is taken as gospel truth.

I hope your tin foil hat fits nicely.

1. v Port - 13 I50’s in a half
2. v ESS - 5 I50’s in a quarter
3. v Carlton - 1 I50 tackle in a half.

But you think Gibbs is alone as not working hard enough.

As always your analysis is only surface deep, which is why I can’t be bothered.

Straw Man, much? Talk about putting words into my mouth, which I never said.
