Re: Brownlow Medal 2010

Tricky game last night given the Dogs dominance for most of the game - would think Hayes would have to be in there...NDS last quarter would give him a big chance and Gilbee had leather poisoning...Montagna also lifted late. Harbrow's dash off half back also eyecatching. Gia also had a lot of it.

I just keep a running tally in a Word document on my computer. I can post the game-by-game votes if people want them.

I watch most games each weekend, but for this, I simply look at the stats from each game on Footy Wire, and take the 3-2-1 for each match from the three players with the highest Champion Data Player Rating. No personal judgements, no bias, just a simple tally of what this particular statistical measure has shown, done purely out of curiosity.

I did the same thing last year too, and it predicted that Gary Ablett would win the Brownlow Medal, right down to the exact vote tally!

Anyway, the votes for the Carlton vs. Collingwood game today went like this:

3. Luke Ball (Collingwood)
2. Sharrod Wellingham (Collingwood)
1. Jordan Russell (Carlton)

According to the CDPR, leading possession winner Chris Judd was the 10th best player on the ground.

Re: Brownlow Medal 2010

Leaderboard after Round 6:

10 - Barlow
8 - Ablett, Brown
7 - Pendlebury, Sandilands
6 - Moloney, ROK, Montagna, Riewoldt, Bartel, Murphy, Watson
5 - McGlynn, Boyd, Brennan, Wellingham, Hodge, James McDonald, Judd, J.Bolton, Swan, Wells.

You'd think now that Barlow would be at least top 5 in this year's count. Amazing for a first-year player, regardless of what age he is.

Re: Brownlow Medal 2010

AG, you have had Keiran Jack for the 3 votes for the last 2 rounds, yet he is not on your leaderboard for 6 votes or more. Just letting you know in case its a mistake.

Re: Brownlow Medal 2010

How much is Pendlebury paying for the brownlow? Might be worth putting a 100 on him.

Votes in Pies games are like a raffle this year, in all our wins the votes could go to any of 6 or 7 players. Having said that, Pendlebury out-polled Swan last year when Swan was one of the favs.

That was probably sandilands least stand out game for the season, would be extremely surprised to see him get two votes, and would be equally stunned to not see pavlich at least get 1 votes for his 5 goal performance.

true, but there were no real standouts during the derby. it was pretty even across the board and freo player's didn't play as well as they have in previous matches. sandilands was one of a few that was playing well early when the eagles were on top, it was more of a case of guys like fyfe, ballantyne, mayne, johnson, pav and mundy stepping up in patches to get them ahead, but its tough to find the clear votes in that game.
but sandilands was involved quite a lot so will probably poll.
