Yep. Heard Richardson on SEN say BG is a great mark. Can’t honestly say I’ve ever thought that, felt like an unreliable mark and when he clunked one it was a bonus.

Yeah sure. 3 goals and not much else is ok and passable for a 2nd ruck on $350k a year. Melbourne are not paying him $350k a year.

Simple fact is Grundy was moved on because he was over paid for a ruckman no matter how good his best footy was. And if his performance today is his benchmark this year, then Melbourne are still over paying him.

These hypothetical questions really serve no purpose mate.
We chose to trade Grundy so that we could get in the likes of Mitchell and McStay. Also, to ensure the future prospects of the team in terms of cap.

As a player, Grundy is way more valuable that Mitchell.

Yeah, it's all about the contract size. I was informed by someone very close to the club it was $1.1m in 2023 and higher in 2024. I was of the assumption that in moving on Treloar, Stephenson and Phillips we may have loaded up Grundy's salary, but apparently he was taking less than the $950k.

If a star player has unreasonable contract demands, you trade them for the best deal possible.

Melbourne got 2 first round picks for Jackson.

I would rather have Mitchell getting 30 plus disposals a game and helping out De Goey then Grundy. Think you can get away with a half decent ruck if you have gun midfielders. I was a huge Grundy fan but his ruck work was questionable in the last couple of years. Jumping early getting the timing wrong bit like Corey McKernan

Instead we sign an inconsistent JDG to same amount of remaining years as Grundy on big money whilst getting peanuts in trade return by pushing him out.

While they’re only practice matches, the weekends games show why De Goey over Grundy was more important to keep. Pies looked better in centrework than they have in years and years. The ruck is not an important position. The really dominant and influential ruckman are those who take contested marks around the ground and kick goals (ie who don’t play like Grundy as a 4th midfielder).

Centre clearances v Hawthorn 19-10 win to us.
