Yep.

That's the kind of cheap, desperate act from a bloke who knows he's already fired all his arrows in the quiver. Good luck on getting that next contract.

Doesn't Lake have an off-field prior for something?
I think he still has points for sticking his elbow out and collecting Walters as he ran past in the GF.

So what actually happened last night? A couple of guys had a wrestle, no one got injured and people want 4 or 5 weeks suspension?. Probably the same people who claim the game is going soft.

People are so conditioned by AFL that anytime something physical like this happens that they demand suspensions
Laying on top of someone so they can't move, clutching double handed on someone's throat until their arms flop and almost black out is not only dangerous it's a weak, gutless act that will see him miss weeks and lose him the respect of his teammates.

It's a different league, but if Archer/Carey/Martyn saw that Lake would be slurping up his Hawaiian pizzas and jam donuts through a straw.

Actually there have been suspensions u set the sliding rule that didn't cause injuries

That rule itself was brought in specifically because of the potential for injury

And show of strength from Lake, LULZ

Loved how he was consistently 3-5 metres behind Petrie all night long
The sliding rule was brought in because of an actual injury.

It's now outlawed by punishment of a free kick.

That's what lake deserved for his action. 50m if you're really upset about the potential instead of the actual.

Oh god here we go.

Grabbing someone by the throat is terrible!

But if our heroes from yesteryear were there we would gladly see them retaliate violently.

There's a lot of confusion in here.

And suspensions, Goodes copped one for it

Stop trying to soft sell the incident, it was a shitful act going for his throat full stop

Deserves weeks but will only get a fine no doubt

Eye gouge lol. Petrie only has to say it was self defence as Lake carried on from a tackle and went way to far. Besides he put his hand over his face not into his eyes like Judd did.
Have you seen the photo of Lakes face? Go to the match day thread and you will see both cuts are right near his eye.

Ps I'm not condoning what lake did

Im not saying this would haave been a good thing. Im stating this is what would have happened.

IMO the best result for us was letting an unfit spud keep playing on Drew.

You then get an increase in players trying to goad the opposition into retaliation much more because the benefit is huge and the cost is low.

I doubt it - you very rarely see players do it in other sports where red/yellow cards or sin bins are an option (2006 WC and Materazzi/Zidane is one of the only examples which springs to mind)

Yah I thought that was strange to. Maybe Petrie was doing stuff behind play? Reminded me of when Hall punched Staker (is that who it was?) seemingly out of nowhere. No lead up to it, and bam. I think if Lake gets done thats why.

To be fair, Staker had been scragging Hall all day and Hall was getting frustrated that the umpires weren't doing anything to help.

Soft sell? Because I don't agree with all the freaking out?

It was a poor act. (Sorry, forgot to be all emotive and throw in words like gutless, dog, etc). It deserved punishment, but given the victim was launching and taking pack marks a minute later I think it's absolutely ridiculous to see people demanding weeks for it.

The game has been sanitized a lot, for the better, but the mob is taking it so much further by demanding a month off for an act that didn't impede the guy on the receiving end.

By the way, didn't realise Goodes got snipped for sliding. If he didn't injure the guy he shouldn't have.

You are kidding yourself comparing this to the sliding rule. It was a deliberate, piss weak, dog act by a has been footballer which had the potential to not only cause serious harm to the player but also ignite a melee. Not to mention the image that infiltrates through junior football.

The AFL should go to town on the flog although that would only be to Hawthorns benefit as he is now a shit truck of a footballer.

So what you are saying is nothing actually happened it just almost happened. And is there any proof that he almost blacked out?

No doubt he will have lost some respect of his teammates last night. His whole 3rd quarter he put himself above the team.

Did Hall get anything for his wrestle on Thompson a few years ago when he was at the Bulldogs?

It wouldn't have been a good thing, you just felt like saying something irrelevant.

Oh and a backhanded insult to lake as well. Well argued.

What would you do? A rotund man is on top of you clutching at your throat? Id get both my thumbs and jam them into his eyes as hard as I could to get him off.

It's an expected defensive reaction. I hope Petrie gets charged so he can explain why he did it on the record.

Why didn't he grab lake by the throat?

Also why did you delete part of my post when quoting it? Hey?

You're all kidding yourselves whorf will get done for weeks..... no excuse..... those tears are sweet!!!!!

Yes I agree not a good act but FFS sake, it must not have been much do a choke for Petrie to jump up and run 50m and take a big pack mark.

Leigh Adams played on and was bumped or tackled by Andrew Collins. Didn't miss the next two games. I guess this compelling evidence and argument would have cleared Judd.
