Do we really care if we're playing dull football if we're winning?

Lyon has taken two, let's face it, bog average teams to GFs.

I watch footy for the total battle, not the offensive battle. Initiating the turnover due to game plan, defensive structure and playing with cohesion is way more satisfying than kicking a goal as we just all ran forward and happen to win that particular clearance that preceded that.

We need the whole team playing as one all over the crowd.

Given me a 61-60 win any day over a loss where we score over 100.

Don't judge by gamestyle. Judge simply by wins.

yes. has to be room for flair and creativity.

Report on AFL.com.au from Riley Beveridge this morning, a few things to note since Riley is pretty well connected at the Blues:

1) SPS & LOB almost certain to not receive contract extensions. I’m assuming they will be traded. Dow also mentioned as a potential trade if a suitor is found which defies logic to me. We’d want at least a top 10 pick for Dow IMO but I’d prefer to hold onto him. He showed this year he could become a very special player. Brodie Kemp is also closing in on a new contract.

2) Sounds like we are now targeting more aerobic midfielders hence the links to Cerra, Hewett & Lipinski.

3) Riley Beveridge seems to have lost faith in the club, he’s started sinking in the boots like the rest of the media recently which is quite sad since he’s basically our only representative on AFL.com. Dangerous to bite the hand that leaks to you…
I know it’s silly season so taking it with a grain of salt, but I hope we don’t lose any of those players!

many below them that need to go first.

Would be a shame to lose LOB. He has the right set of attributes to be a great winger (kicking, pace, endurance), a position we have limited options in.

Don't really see the point of trading guys like him, SPS and Dow for next to nothing.

Would like to see LOB get one more year, was just starting to find his groove. Not having the new coach in place makes these list decisions harder, as papers may have been stamped by the Teague regime, but a new coach might see potential. Not ideal.

That's why the selection policy this year was so frustrating. LOB may have a line through his name, but didn't play enough senior footy to really judge either way.

I saw a video with Ross and Reiwoldt the other day where Reiwoldt talked about the way Ross always encouraged the St Kilda players to get the ball in the hands of the good kicks. We don't do that at all and often end up with our poorer kicks being the ones to deliver inside 50m. Would love to see how Obrien would go in a system where he was targeted.

SPS, happy enough for him to find a new home. Dow as well if I'm honest, his defensive deficiencies are huge and are unlikely to be tolerated by a more demanding coach. Lyon for example wouldn't play Dow until he can actually chase and apply pressure without the ball (you know, basics of AFL midfield play), so Paddy might be looking at another year in the 2s until he sorts that out.

SPS could well be part of the deal for Cerra, could be a win-win for both clubs.
LOB finally showed his true ability in the last few rounds and I would be really disappointed if he were to be traded.
Dow showed some real improvement this season, however his tank has a long way to go. With regard to him being traded, I am not sure where I stand. He could end up being a top-liner or maybe we could be better off without him. Depends on who we pick up to replace these players I guess.

The issue with Dow is he has a lot of deficiencies in areas that are important for his best position as an inside mid:
- Poor Tank
- Poor Defensively
- Average Disposal
- Physically Small
- Struggles to Accumulate
- No secondary position

I would still prefer to keep him given his limited trade value, but he needs a massive pre-season to be in the round one team.

Just read the article, Riley seems to suggest that the list is largely poor. Yet Sayers said the review found the list was quality but hadn’t been developed.

Know Riley is a Carlton supporter but I’d be questioning his contacts. Time will tell, though.

I also find it doubtful that decisions have been made on supposedly talented players when a review has just been conducted suggesting coaching and development is an issue. More likely they are awaiting the incoming coach before making a call.

I'd agree with Sayers. SPS & Lob would hurt us. Both have been victims of our poor development systems (among countless others). Not too surprised on Dow. Think we can get a better balance from other players in our mid setup. Think he's got some weapons but a lot of gaps but my preference would be to keep all three.

Reckon Ross would tell him to spend a considerable amount of time in the gym and bulk up a bit. Then, yes he needs a huge pre-season on the track as well. Or maybe Ross has already told Luke he has to go.

Depends what it means by "swap of second and third rounders". Swapping our second for their third would be overs. Swapping our second and third for their second and third is the most token of steak knives. Especially if one of those is just gonna be traded for Riccardi anyway.
They don’t have a third. So it’s more like their second for our third.

I dreamt last night that Clarko was staying at my house and conducting interviews with Gethelred and happydude as potential assistant coaches.

He caught me eavesdropping and went absolutely ballistic at me.

It's definitely a sign!!!

That I spend too much time on BF...
