Well we have Cook now who signed off on Danger and Cameron at Geelong. He could be one of the drivers to get a deal done for Trac if he’s viewed as a piece of the puzzle.

They are such a good example. They identify something they need and they go after it. They were losing Tim Kelly who was a gun for them while he was there, and they used the draft pick haul to plug another hole with one of the best players in the game.

I think posters on BigFooty are fencesitters when it comes to List Management, and it's understandable.

The average fan who isn't passionate to be posting and analysing games, is thrilled whenever any good player comes to their club. We are aware of the draft and salary cap, and therefore where our team will be situation in 1 year, 2 years, 5 years. We also have a massive emotional tie to our good players and don't want to lose them.

So all of these questions swirl around our heads. Using the Petracca/McKay example. What if Petracca's injury leads to lasting issues? What if he isn't the same player? What if he wants too much money? What if losing McKay hurts us more than Petracca helps us? What if the culture of the club suffers from bringing in a highly paid player and losing a loved player? These questions will have you second guessing to the point of inaction.

We don't have these answers.

I believe that players like Cripps, Walsh and Weitering are driven and hungry for success. I believe they'd all play for less if it meant increasing our premiership chances. We only have a couple of years of peak Cripps left. What sort of hole would his retirement cause? Our window is closing quickly and we have gone nowhere near a flag.

Some seem to be planning for the next phase after our current stars. Building another wave from underneath so that we don't become cellar dwelling easy beats. Does this keep us thereabouts or challenging?

We've actually gone a couple of years now .... just counting on improvement from within. I don't think we've got the balls to do what Geelong did when they went after Jeremy Cameron. That worked out pretty damn well for them.

Fair. I don’t believe this current list has all the attributes that can overcome all of the challenges a quest for a flag will throw at us. Much has been spoken about why we likely cannot go all the way. I loved the heroics of 2023 but, we had a lot of good fortune too. 2024 hasn’t been so fortunate. What are we gonna do about it for 2025? We have to improve the list but how? The draft isn’t enough unless you pick up another Reid which requires a wooden soon. For example, E hollands was a handy addition but if we go at that pace, we will prob see a net benefit to the list just as Cripps is on his last legs. The timing of realities has me worried.

Would like to see Petracca in Blue for sure but - You need two gun big defenders and two gun tall forwards to be serious - Petracca doesn't fill a hole as far as second tall defender goes and creates a second hole if he is swapped for Harry - I'd rather see the rumour re Cerra to Melbourne as part of any Petracca talk than Harry leaving - unless he has decided he wants to go .

He's quick, he's a burst player, he can move the ball and also provide a strong option, and yes he can spread from a stoppage.

And hits the scoreboard at a more dangerous level than any of our current mids. He has taken over games hitting the scoreboard.

If there was a player in the AFL who i'd consider the perfect complement to Cripps it would be Trac.

I agree he is a burst player but I don't think Petracca is an elite ball user in the midfield. He does however provide a strong option up forward. And although he can spread from the stoppage I don't think he will give us much defensively.

This isn't in anyway to discount Petracca as a player as I think he has been a top 5 player in the league over the last few years. But Melbourne will ask for TDK, McKay or Curnow + probably a pick. And to me losing any of those three players leads to a net loss especially when you consider Petracca will be 29 in January.

If this was free agency and all we were giving up was salary then I'd be fully behind it.

Fair call but what exactly did Geelong give up to get Cameron? To be precise it was largely the compensation they got from West Coast, who desperately overpaid for him, for Tim Kelly. Tim Kelly was a speculative over age second round draft pick by a club that had been perennially making finals. Geelong would’ve figured they were playing with house money.

It’s a very different prospect to trading out a blue chip first round draft pick like McKay (or Curnow for that matter) sold to fans as part of the price for a long and painful from the ground up rebuild for the club that hadn’t been a serious premiership contender for over a decade. If we trade one of those guys (or Walsh or TDK) to get Petracca I will spew up.

Crippa, Trac and TDK in the midfield create an unbelievable mix of experience, power, strength, height and agility.

Trac adds exactly what we are currently missing in our mid group - burst/power and goal kicking ability.

He's like a Dustin Martin on steroids. He is untacklable.

As well if we bring in a B grade 2nd KPD

Our team becomes perfectly balanced and ready to bring home multiple flags

2 x star Mids
2 x star KPDs

Problem is Dees will most likely want H in return

If they were happy with Cerra + picks Id have no problems doing it.

I know he is a very valued member of our team and I accept that but I'm struggling with the "star" attributes....

For example:

• He can run all day
• Very professional - Trains/prepares well
• Very competitive

What I see lacking though are:

• Lacks power/burst
• Gets tackled way too easily - countless holding the ball
• Kicking is not good
• Decision making questionable
• Defensively ??
• Goals scoring?
• Real impact on games ?

Can you help me see where/how he is a star?

Yarran doesn't belong with that group. Played some very good games for us - 119 games, 90 goals (inc. 26 in 2013).

Yes, he promised more, but what he gave us was at times electrifying. And in the end, we still got pick 19 from the Tiges (where he never played a match).

I agree with TODN though, Melbourne lack a key forward and would almost certainly want McKay as part of the deal, otherwise they may look at other clubs. Loosing McKay would almost certainly shatter what little culture we currently have here as he is one of the most loyal to the jumper and signed a long term deal (pre salary cap increase).

As far as I'm concerned, our entire spine should be untouchable.
