Wishing Sam all the best & hoping for a speedy but complete recovery for him.
The back stuff scares me & young men shouldn’t have to have worry about it.
Footy can be so harsh on the body & it brings into perspective how amazing the players are that reach 300 + games.

Im an unabashed fan of Cuners. Massive point of difference for our team.

Another who just needs a clean run at injuries. If he can get going this year it would be massive.

Last chance saloon for him I think.

Spinal surgery is a last resort remedy, hence not undertaking the operation sooner. Realistically, recovery is closer to 6 months than 3 months. This one should not be rushed

Yep and especially for Walshy's quality of life after footy should be of most importance, more then us winning games of footy (least to me)

Our depth will be tested again early, but we have to soldier on in a manner of speaking and hopefully give some lesser and or unknown quantities (kids) a chance to step up and hopefully make a positive impression during Walsh's absence.

Would love to see Ollie Hollands play round 1.

They're all different. Microdiscetomy in and of itself is a fairly minor procedure, patients usually go home day after.

Let's see how he recovers.
Nothing minor with back surgery but yes I agree that most patients go home the next day after a micro discectomy. The nerves if impacted or crushed by the bulging disc can take months and sometimes years to heal. In the unfortunate event that the cauda equina nerves are impacted, then if not caught within day's, it can affect the rest of your life and will never fully recover.

Agree, the healing process is extremely variable depending on acuity and severity.

There's acute cauda equina compression syndrome on one severe end of the scale (risk of irreversible damage with permanent weakness, loss of anal tone and bladder function) and then indolent lumbar radiculopathy on the other end (e.g. sciatica type syndrome).

Can we please get a 'Blue Healer's Medical Room - Doctor's opinions only'?
Proof of PhDs MDs to be sent to Aph.

As requested... :tearsofjoy: although you'd be best served taking advice about the management of this stuff from an orthopaedic or neurosurgery trained person. I can only diagnose these things on imaging.

Nice work Dr Plow…tell me did they use a retractor?

Seriously - again? Yet another injury to a key player mismanaged in the offseason.

But hey, lets drop the news the day before Christmas when people are busy and on holidays so that the complete ineptitude of the club isn't on public show (again).

Bunch of absolute clowns running the joint - still.
😂 😂 lol

Let’s get our pitch forks & storm the place b.

Would love to know the hypothesis of the cause of injury. Shouldn’t be ‘No idea’ or as vague as ‘loads’.

I can’t recall very many 21 year olds needing back surgery….in my whole long life following the sport.

My bet is gym accident/overuse.

Slightly over dramatic commentary, clearly the club were confident a few months of rest would resolve the issue, hence it has not now they have taken the next step, think we should wait 3 months and hopefully he is back on track, sure the issue with sort itself with rest & recovery .

Herein lies the problem... how many times have they been confident that "a bit of rest" will resolve the issue, only for it to turn out worse than thought...

At what point does it stop being bad luck... are we allowed to question Russell's competence here?
