Jarrod Berry should use the Joel Selwood defence
Over the years, Selwood has been filmed on multiple occasions wrestling opponents and sticking his fingers into their eyes.
He has never been suspended for it.
Here he is sneakily attacking Ben Howlett's eye sockets behind play when he thought nobody was looking.
First with the left hand and then with the right hand
In the 1st clip below, the Geelong golden boy gave Bailey Dale's eyeballs some tough love and Steve Hocking gave him $1000 fine for misconduct.
In the 2nd clip below from the same game, he gives Taylor Duryea's eyeball a nice old rake and then steps on his shin.
Both actions were "purely accidental", of course.... Just "one of those things" (or two of those things) which sometimes occurs when Joel is angry.

lol in not one of those clips did he eye gouge. he is guilty of slapping players faces. not sure how far that goes in a suspension critera
that is a load of crap. he had his arms free to push or shove oliver in the side or push his arms away, yet he deliberately went for the face and eyes.
this is a suspension by the laws of the book. Olivers actions are irrelevant, and it appears people are trying to claim it is ok to eye gouge as long as there is a big bad meanie hurting me.

But they want it to be true sooooo much. Chewy even keeps videos of Selwood to to show his obsession.
Selwood's no angel, but there is carryon even in threads not about him is something to behold.

Would be an absolute farce if it was anything more than a fine. Not seeing many people saying it's a suspension except Dees and Cats fans.

Certainly a fine, not intentional contact, Oliver clearly instigated it after getting shitty about losing the clearance, Berry wants him off.
simple question. should eye gouging be a suspension if there is proof they eye gouged?? or is eye gouging ok as long as another player is wrestling or ontop of you?
my point of view is simple, eye gouging is a suspension period then you look at the action of the other player and suspend if necessary.
If we have taken the stance that players with under a second to choose an action are responsible for a bump that leaves a player concussed, then surely a player is held responsible for there much more thought out choice to eye gouge.
it is because they are playing geelong this weekend and the entire footy world is going nuts hoping for a brisbane upset.
Geelong is currently the most hated team in the AFL because we have not dropped down the ladder and are such a well run club. Simples

Should have pushed his face with an open palm, not bent this fingers, it’s definitely an eye gouge but I want him to play on Selwood next week

presume the one week factored in that Brisbane are playing the AFLs favourite son Geelong this week. What a horrid decision going into a big preliminary final. Especially when you consider the extenuating circumstance of having a forearm crushing his throat

Funnily enough in the VFL Robinson did what Oliver did and had a free kick paid against him. It was paid almost immediately. Another example where if the umpire did their job, a player would not have been suspended. Having said that, Brisbane challenges, says he was panicked because he couldn’t breathe and was wildly trying to get the player off. Intentional gets dropped to careless.
