What happened to the Stars?

I was watching through to the drinks break where it looked like Maxwell was going to take the match away from the Thunder - I decided to watch something else and not long checked the score

Congrats Thunder

Bring on Friday night
Maxwell got one that turned a lot and hit it straight to the bowler

Bad luck for the Stars, their fairytale run came unstuck at the Thunder's cheat ground, even India roll out fairer pitches.

The Thunder will have a tougher battle against the Sixers at a proper cricket ground the SCG, providing it isn't another washout.

The SCG is just as bad. Flat pitch with no bounce and tiny boundaries

Nah this pitch is awful. There’s a massive difference between pitches with a bit of life and this one.

A T20 shouldn’t be behaving like a day 5 rank turner. Especially one that was getting noticeably worse over the 40 overs of the game.

You can score runs on it- Davies got 36, heck even Gilkes got a nice 20 odd. If you played straight rather than across the line you could bat on it. Problem is batsmen are useless and lazy and won’t work. A solid run a ball 40 wins the game why not open with Cartwright to do exactly that!

It’s our home game we have 3 spinners why on earth would we produce a road taking out half our attack and gifting the stars exactly what they want?

The SCG still has better pitches than the Showgrounds shithole, every batsmen struggled on it including Warner and Maxwell.

Instead you have spud spinners Usama Mir and Chris Green starring with the ball having uneven bounce and turning corners.

Just becuase we don’t roll out a 200 pitch so you can see Maxwell swing like a drunk buffoon doesn’t mean it’s a “cheat” pitch or ground. Batsmen can work hard and treat it like a ODI. A 40 off 40 wins the game don’t open with two duds

Agree

Win enough games during the season you earn the right to play on your pitch

What if the Thunder had appealed for that Handscomb caught-behind?
With Handscomb’s strike rate not appealing may have been the better outcome. Stars needed a big hitter in the top 3.

The Thunder opened with Warner and one dud and still got off to a terrible start, if Warner couldn't make runs it's a bad pitch.

Gilkes looked fine, Billings was solid, Davies looked good. All 3 generally played fairly correct. Warner failed so what like every opener can. Why on earth would we give the Stars a flat road? That’s exactly what they want

Open with Cartwright and get Handscomb to keep come on he’s useless but Harper is dogs

Scorchers would have won that.

They would have got rolled cheaply too, most WA batsmen aren't good on spinning wickets and Finn Allen isn't good against spin.

Some people will say he isn't good against pace but he's even worse against spin, that's why he is an opener and NZC let him go.

What it does show is how incredibly lazy and one dimensional bats are. Ball isn’t going straight like a ball machine and they have no idea. Batsmen have to know and learn how to build an innings in all conditions yes some conditions you need to get 200+, but some require knuckling down getting your run a ball putting away the bad ball

Batters are definitely getting worse at playing on moving/spinning wickets.

This wasn’t just a pitch with a bit in it though. The “bad ball” from the spinners where still pretty much unplayable and couldn’t just be put away.

We’ve seen a lot of wickets this BBL with some life in them. Especially early.

It really helped both teams bowling line ups are pretty awful. Others neither team would have made 80.
