Travis Head could play an innings to get things going our way again, and I think Boland coming in might be a blessing in disguise. I'm hopeful anyway.

Least Boland unlike the others are match hardened having actually played Shield cricket/A games.

And he is a victorian and one of the reasons the Vics are on top of the shield ladder but why is he the only Vic in the squad.

Hey he's the only decent one (don't you dare claim Harris), I do like Murphy in the future though. The one I like the most is Kellaway though, really hope you continue to bat him where you have.

I agree on Kellaway as a potential opener and just wish SA had tried Mc Sweeney as a opener earlier in the season seeing we are in need of 2 openers for the future.Who is this Harris you talk of?lol.

Hahaha you are cheeky I'll give you that mate!

On a serious note yeah I love this Kellaway opening idea, he may be the answer going forward as the foil to Kontas opening. McSweeney plays but at 3-4 not opening.

Kellaway similar to Kontas has youth on his side and is the future.I presume he will open in the shield game on Friday and lets hope both these boys go well on the week end as openers.Surely in the future each state has to play at least 1 shield game in the middle of the test series and even a 2nd 11 game as well.

A great thread on batting adjustments. Interested to see the head positions of batsmen this test, especially Smith.

Twitter/X is a cesspool but has some great info too.

Very good - balance is the key to good batting - Matthew Elliot gave me some great advice when i was about 16 that your head is your steering wheel

siddle lol...its embarassing that he is still playing shield level..dont Victoria have any young fast bowlers ?

Yeah his average of 17 in India suggests turning pitches will eliminate him as a factor

Better than what he averaged in the first test, and I'll take my chances that way, NZ bundled them out. Rather that than produce seamers, I mean we suck batting on both least if you win the toss it's an advantage when it turns

All true but ultimately we won’t know the outcome until after the series is finished/decided.

By any measure our preparations looked “light” - India onnthe other hand came here very much match hardened.

Cricket is a game where moments and momentum play a huge part. After the Indian 1st Innings - we had it, only for our batsmen to surrender it meekly. The Indian 2nd Innings was a disaster, the tyro carved us and then the maestro was seemingly gifted a ton which was the worst possible outcome. We know the rest.

Cummins captaincy quite rightly came under fire. He looked underdone and some of his bowling moves and fields looked non competitive at times.

The ball is in his court, we can only hope that we get better and India tire, otherwise the heat on him will only continue to rise.

The momentum is with India, who in our team is up to the task of reversing it?
The conditions also played a part. 17 wickets on day 1, with the pitch becoming better to bat on day 2 definitely put Australia in a tough spot. This in turn caused the bowlers to be bowled a lot without much rest, on top of which 2 of them may have already picked up an injury.

Now, that does not fully excuse the poor performance by any measure, but gives some context.

India were hardened by getting swept at home, you are assuming they would’ve played if they hadn’t had that series, but that is just an assumption.

The losing captain always comes under fire, rightly or wrongly, and the ball is always in their court regardless of the result.

No that’s a very sound theory.

‘Serve up a deck that’s like where this guy averages better than the greatest bowlers in history for his career based on one game.’

Least other people are realising it now. That is a positive lol
I think people realised we’d miss him, but the last test turned into a situation where we really missed him. If 17 wickets don’t fall on day one, it probably doesn’t show as much, but they did.

Well having a batsmen that wouldn't bat like a donkey could help, mind you unfortunately Marnus would still be there

Well yes, having bats score plenty of runs usually helps

I'll take occupying the crease and not having bowlers to be back bowling in 50 overs because they can't be bothered getting through a tough period
