Well after hearing Clarko’s speech, I’m even more looking forward to next year! Lessssgo!!!!
My wife was asked if we should upgrade out membership to guarantee a grand final ticket for next year. First time I've ever had to reign her in for anything north related

Speaks very well, passionate about the game and the club, understands the task at hand yet doesn't seem daunted by it and wants to bring everybody in on the journey and contribute to it's success. The perfect way to inspire an sporting organization after one of it's most disappointing and depressing seasons.

I catch a bus to and from work every day, but this might be one bus ride I'll actually enjoy. Well done Clarko.

Anyone got the stats on who we took before this bunch?
In 2018 only Thomas at 8, but we took Taylor and Bailey Scott a couple of picks after Mcinerny, in the late 40s. Our 2018 is probably as good or better if TT gets back to what he is capable of.

In 2019 we picked Mahony but also Perez and Comben before Warner. That could still end up ok, we could end up with two guns and a good role player.

In 2020 we had Phillips and Powell before Gulden.

The only one of those picks that is really sketchy is Mahony before Warner.

It's the drafts 5 years before them that ****ed us...

Durden, Neilson, EVW, the queenslanders etc

I'm watching the finals with envy, but I'm so glad Clarkson is building all he can to prepare the journey back there. I strongly believe we'll see strong improvement next year across the board and build well off the backend of the season with a minimum 6-7 wins, and start to look ominous come 2024-2025

Watching finals - biggest things clarko will need to implement if defensive game plan
Bring players that can run and have the stamina to keep running
Stronger players and tackles that stick
Lastly improve skill level
The rebuild will be a lot quicker than 'expected' with the right players in.

and Mills was all australian this year

there's an enormous asterisk next to anything they do - the bloods culture is a myth. it's easy to build culture when you get gun players handed to you on a silver platter.
1000%

What was that ridiculous stat thrown around the other night, Sydney have played in 16 out of the last 20 finals series, that must be all savvy recruiting and brilliant development over a two decade stretch within the normal AFL parameters eh?.. 🤣🤣

That’s the exact reason why I‘m so passionate about us being given half decent PP compensation..

Make sure the ritual is done correctly- you must be wearing a royal blue & white veil, strum some Springsteen hymns on the ceremonial guitar, drink the holy caramel milkshake from a miniature premiership cup, and when you kneel and pray make sure you are facing the direction of Kaniva, birthplace of the good lord Clarko 🙏🙏🙏

I'd like to know if any of their young listed players quietly go and spend time at the Swans academy (after they're drafted). In others words, do they get around the soft cap by using academy resources to fix kicking techniques etc etc. Pretty sure they do.

The Swans Academy has 9 hubs and coaches 800 kids a year. They must have a ton of coaches. I know the Kicking Consultant works for them or has done. Most of their young players all look similar in technique - Blakey and co, they take a step back and then absolutely knife their passes. But so do their other players who shouldn't have ever had any academy coaching. What they have is a very large coaching ecosystem - ideas and expertise permeate to the senior side and coaching staff.

What we have is just 2 or 3 coaches in player development. We need to be able to somehow draw on more coaching resources - like the AIS - without it affecting the soft cap.

I remember Shaw trying to drill this into the group during preseason too.

Yeah I agree. Actually 2016 was pretty good. Three genuine gun players is a good haul whenever they were picked. Our 2016 draft provided two fowards who kicked over 70 goals between them (with terrible service) and the Syd winner this year. Could end up with two serviceable big men and two guns from 2017 as well.

2012, 13, 14 and 15 gave us Turner, McDonald and McKay from our current list. Mason Wood and Trent Dumont are the only other players we drafted in that period still playing afaik (edit - forgot BBB). This is why we should get better faster than people think.

We chose Mahoney before Chad Warner *en lol

We chose Comben, Mahoney and Perez before Warner.

On exposed form not one of the 3 is better than Warner is right now so why is Jack the only one getting shat on for a decision that wasn’t his to make?

Don’t say we chose, say the names of the incompetent morons who had the decision making power.

Stop shitting on a 20 yo, who is busting his arse trying to make a career out of footy and call out the recruiters, the scouts, the GM.
