Coach AFL investigation into Chris Scott

Ummm... There's never been an official announcement by the club about the position Scott has taken at Morris Finance

It was announced on Morris Finance's website and from there the media - including Mitch Cleary, are the ones ran with the news, publishing tweets etc. They then would have approached the club & Scott for interviews, and if anyone from our side said no, then imagine the public outrage and trying to hide something

Are you seriously suggesting the club didnt know what Morris and Scott were going to announce? Or that the club couldnt have stepped in before they went public and asked them to hold off?

AFL find convenient time months down the road to quietly tell the world nothing was amiss and again tick off the deal.

Which nobody sees and every oppo supporter continues to call us cheats for years. If it is all above board then the club couldve and shouldve handled this better.

Some people might be able to brush it off, but personally i dont like the accusations being thrown around. It has pissed me off ever since we were linked with Dank. Stories like this just add fuel to it. The media are looking for the rage bait to drive clicks and we gave it to them. Any suggestion that the club didnt have the capacity to step in and handle this better before the initial announcement by Morris is incredibly naive.

I can't remember that far back, but was there many concerns raised when Luke Beveridge was appointed as adjunct professor following the 2016 premiership win?

That's just comical. That meathead and professor in the same sentence!

Again - Scott didn’t make announcement, but instead was asked about the positon in a media interview which no doubt the club would have been aware of. And besides, who’s to say that the announcement wasn’t already delayed?

Morris Finance posted the update on their FB page and a story on their website - I have no doubt that both Scott & the club were aware that Scott’s new position was going to be offically announced, but the club would have no right to tell another organisation how to conduct their business

If as per the information from last week when this news first hit the media that everything had been cross checked by Scott’s manager, the club, the AFL and Morris Finance before any agreement had been met - why would an announcement need to be delayed or held off on being made? Holding off on making an announcement or not making one would surely be the worse option and instead add fuel to the fire that there’s something to hide

Having it all out in the public seems a pretty clear indication that they aren't trying to hide anything

If it turns out it was the Western Bulldogs who pushed for this investigation, I wonder if Geelong are mature enough to ignore it and just get on with business or perhaps, bridges are burned moving forward?
Won’t shock me one tiny bit if the external noise has been from the doggies as they reek of unprofessionalism and would be that petty

Then market it the same way they always have: with their logo all over the place. You dont need to announce that Scott has been appointed to some made up role to do that.
Looks a bit more dodgy if someone one day discovers Chris Scott has been given some non-disclosed role in the company and is on their books. That would scream there's something going on here and create a much bigger shit storm.

The day I allow what anyone else says about my football club affect how I view them is the day I would have to seriously consider whether it's worth the emotional investment I'm making in supporting the team.

Which means that if there's something less relevant to my sense of pride in the hoops than what other (clearly embittered) people say about the club, I'm yet to think of it.

Personally don’t like it. May be completely above board but it brings unnecessary scrutiny and innuendo to both Scott and the club. The optics are terrible.

Fail to see also how he has time to take on a job of any significance? An AFL coaching job should be a full time position.

Anyway, know most won’t agree.
I think it's actually great.
He's been to Harvard a couple of times. I like him expanding those skills.

It's one thing to be taught something, and another to put it into practice.
Lets face it, Scott would command $10k easily on any speaking circuit.

If he's running leadership lectures once a month or so I think it's great for him. And I just cant see it impacting the club at all. I bet he has it written that he won't be doing any work for them in august / September.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised if this is the time of the year where he does most of the work for them by flying around holding meetings.

How dare you bring logic and critical thinking into this discussion

You should be ashamed of yourself

Can see your point …. Is this due to him spreading his wing or the soft cap. Take the soft cap off senior coaches and all income lets see if he still does the job.

To me Scott is more a manger than a coach. Is there a cap on Hocking's wage?

Meh.

**** the rest.

If its above board then CS deserves to do whatever he likes, its his life.
**** the optics. Irrelevant pish in my book.
This is also the sort of bloke who sacrificed an entire 12 months of his salary to help out his workplace during covid… I think it’s pretty obvious why you would give him this role.. as silly as the title sounds.. if it’s a legitimate role.. he would surely be the one to tick the boxes

I think it's more due to Scott spreading his wings and having something outside of football that he can also focus on - not sure he has a farm 😉

Mitch Cleary sent a second tweet about the Scott/Morris Finance situation last night and it started with, "Chris Scott has had a role with Morris Finance for several years which was initially ticked off by the AFL."

So while this latest position sounds new, it doesn't seem Scott having an outside focus is new - watching how Scott has coached over recent seasons, if this external role gives him the ability to focus on all thing GFC when in coaching mode but to them switch off when aware from the club, I'm all for it

I remember when I was a young buck, we all hated those clubs with a long record of finals appearances/success and club/financial stability. In short, we were jealous of them, but we would never admit that. Instead, we'd call them arrogant flogs, cheaters, and whatever else eased the pain of watching them go on year after year enjoying such success. At the same time, our club had a stadium falling to bits, had debt up to its eyeballs, and struggled to pay players even the minimum amounts. I mean, my God, we lost Greg Williams to Sydney all because we couldn't stump up an extra $5000.

Imagine my surprise that in 2024, I realized that Geelong now has a long record of finals appearances/success and club/financial stability. We also have a state-of-the-art stadium, the envy of most other clubs. What an amazing turnaround for this club. And Chris Scott is a big part of that equation.

So, I get why other supporters are reacting to us like they do these days. I used to be the same when Geelong was a struggling club and hated Hawthorn, Carlton, Essendon, and Collingwood for the same reasons opposition fans hate us today.

It's the circle of life, I guess.

Which would not be an issue if the head coach was excluded from the soft cap. But as he isn’t ..it become a point of contention..

Didn't it come up in Hawk's retirement press conference that Scotty has moved out of town near Tom too?

The trolls will love that!

We DID sell them all. We just keep buying new ones for a dollar!
Do we really have to pay that much for them, though? I thought we were just handed the title deeds for the properties by the Illuminati, in exchange for the promise of silence regarding our insider knowledge of the covert activities of all AFL CEO's over recent years.
