An elite karate kid headband was just one of the highligts in a massive performance from Thrillem Duursma in the opening round of Talent League play who put his hand up to say that he's right in the mix for pick 1 consideration. He looks locked in to the mid/fwd role and he showed that he's equally dangerous in either position. When in the forward line he created a number of scoring opportunities for himself or his teammates, and when played through the middle his size was a serious disruptor, helping his team win the ball or applying strong tackling pressure. He was at his most influential out in space, finding a stack of the footy and using his athleticism to present strongly for his teammates.

Seen enough get him in

Love our Duursma so would be happy getting some more Duursmas

Duursma was terrific on Sunday.
Showed he can get it done in the midfield but was also dangerous when forward.
I think he is comfortably the best player in the Coates league.
My guess is we come 14which is pick 5 and for arguments sake melbourne finish 12 which is pick 7.
You would have to think seriously about Sam Draper which would net us pick 6.
Pick 6 and 7 for Harley Reid would have to be tempting for wce.
We could then look to use pick 5 to try and secure Willem Duursma.

Suddenly a forward 6 of

Reid Caddy Martin
Duursma Langford Kako looks very exciting.

It would leave our ruck stocks slightly skinny with Bryan visentini wright and old man time!

We should try to facilitate some kind of trade involving Parish or McGrath for Zak Butters. A midfield of Merrett, Caldwell, Durham and Butters should be more defensively solid and show the way for Tsatas, Martin and Perkins. Butters should automatically supercede McGrath in the leadership group.
Does McClure realise I'm just some nuffie?

There's usually a ruck merry go round. May we'll get a second Visentini in!

A strong first outing for Onley here, best on for his Bushrangers team in a losing effort. His size, power and clean hands at stoppage proved extremely difficult for Gippsland to handle as Onley won a stack of clearances and helped initiate forward moves. His aerial prowess and reading of the play are a real weapon. The major concern for Onley is his disposal by foot, which wasn't great again here but he gets a pass due to the wild and windy conditions.

if you do get a chance, Noah Hibbins - Hargreaves (Dandenong Stingrays) would be great, obviously Adam Sweid (Calder Cannons) would be great too

love your work mate

In the marquee matchup of the weekend, Cooper Duff-Tytler got the better of Louis Emmett and played a huge role in helping his Cannons team get up on the day. He didn't always have his own way in the hitout battle, but his follow up work at ground level and on the spread was elite for a 200cm lad. Given his relatively recent full time commitment to footy we might only be scratching the surface of what he's capable of.

there is so much Rowan Marshall about the big hyphen

There's been a lot of chatter in Essendon fan circles about NGA linked Adam Sweid's first game of the season for the Cannons. After missing a season with a torn ACL, Adam posted a strong first up performance showcasing his intensity, power and strength at the contest and an ability to do damage with the ball in hand.

Ollie Greeves has added muscle to his already impressive frame in the off season making him a serious physical specimen. He'll have games where he finds more of the footy, but this was a solid outing for him albeit he struggled with his kicking at times in the strong wind which affected everyone and turned this game into a scrap. One area of improvement for him coming into this season was his defensive pressure, so it was good to see him crunching into a number of tackles here and even winning a couple of free kicks.

Apologies for the lack of sound, the effects mics were only picking up the noise of wind so I had to mute.

What a talent. I'm always hesitant when it comes to talls and especially rucks for high end draft capital.

VFL watchers, do we know what we've got ceiling-wise with Vigo and Gerryn yet? Is there a place for Duff-Tytler?

It's incredibly dumb to judge a ruckman by his ability to play forward. It's like judging Langford as a mid, Hobbs as a forward or D'Ambrosio for his ability to defend.
If a ruckman has impact around the ground and at stoppages that's where he plays. That's what he should be judged on. Besides in the most functional forward lines, there's never a ruckman to be seen. ie. Hawthorn with Gunston, Breust, Puopolo, Roughead, Franklin, Rioli. All sharpshooters that could kick goals from anywhere under any kind of pressure.
Richmond with Riewoldt, Castagna, Bolton, Lynch, Rioli, Lambert, Edwards Martin. Not a ruckman to be seen there either, but manic forward pressure and the ability to break loose in the blink of an eye.
Rucks for the ruck, forwards for the forward line.

There is 1000% a place for him but he will go in the top 3 so we will need a top 3 pick. And then we probably give up on Reid unless Draper walks.

I really like his power, his tenacity and ability to stick a tackle an added bonus. Skils albeit neat can be untidy at times.

Does the 1000% reduce to a mere 100% if Draper wants to stay?
Not really. He is a midfielder in a ruckman's body. He is not someone you pass on.
