Dodoro had Jobe Watson who is still currently our best player since Hird. He also had Joe Daniher who under the current rules would have likely gone top 2. What more can a Vic list manager ask for? Many list managers would have turned that into a premiership and we couldn't even win a final.

He is definitely not at a disadvantage. I'm not sure if I'm missing your sarcasm or if this is genuinely what you believe.
Jobe was 22 years ago, he wasnt even rated at the time

Then Joe Daniher, fair enough, but we didnt even get to have him around for the best parts of his career

I just worry people putting alot of our downfall on Dodoro and all of a sudden singing Rosa as the saviour after a draft and yet to see these players. Hes been handed a nice start with an NGA top 4-7 prospect rated by other list managers

Lets wait and see before calling Dodoro the cancer and now hes gone all will change abd we will become a juggernaut again

And also remember the national recruting manager hasnt changed since 2018

The reason we didn’t get Daniher for the best part of his career was because Essendon wasn’t good enough to win games and he copped a lot of that.

Becoming elite is hard so who knows about all that. I’d settle for having minimal glaringly obvious flaws, and having all our most expensive players able to fit together on the field at the same time effectively

All a combination of

  • Losing
  • Repeat Injury
  • Covid
  • Drug Saga

I think he was like i just need a fresh state

Not much of the above Adrians fault though

No one will dilute my happiness at that campaigner going.

I don't think anyone is saying that Rosa will definitely build a competitive list. You're right to say it's too early to tell.
Most are happy that Dodoro left because he just hasn't gotten the results after being given more than enough opportunities to get it right. We desperately needed a change.
I like Rosa's moves so far, but we'll need to wait and see how it pans out.

just go with it

Dodoro proved his list build ceiling was 6th over multiple decades. Not everything went his way and things went wrong outside of his control (saga, coaches, culture). He was given plenty of opportunity though. The reason why people are happy he is gone is because of his personality. Everything was about him, in what needed to be a team environment. So we move on.

Rosa, RFK, Scott, McPherson and Vozzo are the new team that will all wear the blame if we dont push for top 4 in the near future.

Rosa is getting credit for turning what he had into what he did through simple no fuss trading. No one thinks he's a saviour, and we havent seen the results of his work.

People are enjoying something different.

Rosa might fail, spectacularly. The entire draft cohort might be as shit as Carlton's 2014 one - they drafted 9 players for a total of 51 games - but at least it's a change.

It's hilariously bad when you look at who went at the very next pick(s):

Pick #19: Blaine Boekhorst
Pick #20: Jayden Laverde

Pick #28: Dillon Viojo-Rainbow
Pick #29: Touk Miller
The extract from Emma Quayles 2014 draft book re Carlton’s exploits is comedy gold. I’ve seen it posted and I wish I could find it (I think Kakkle posted it?).

Basically, it said that Carlton’s team were stunned that every player they wanted was available to them and it was as if they had a reverse draft order to every other team.

That's not 'Definitely ends up at Essendon through the NG academy if he's 4 years younger' Touk Miller, is it?

My gut feel is we’ll look back at this draft as being similar to 2016. Good players right through to the 70s, but arguably no superstars (Maybe Tom Stewart?).

I reckon multiple later picks was a good move given the strength of this draft was depth and evenness.
