Player Watch #7: Zane Duursma - post 2024’s shoulder surgery now back in full training and played in the intra club

Broadcaster said he was out with a shoulder. Does anyone know if it’s an injury or if he was just a bit sore?

Really shit luck. But was never going to play round 1 anyway.
Was an outside chance but yeah, mostly agree.

Sounds pretty minor which is good. Odds are he'll be available for VFL or very early in the season for AFL. He's one player that I feel just needs football at either level for now.

I think in general we underestimate the physical demands on young players - it's a bit like hardening wood, things have to age before they're ready (with obvious exceptions)
Indeed. Probably more to it than "just play them"

I know we're all pretty down on the club after Tommy Campbell's break out game on Saturday, but it's not just us.

Depends what sort of form he's showing at training and over preseason. Both he and Fisher are available but haven't played the practice matches. I would say if they are looking good at training they will play

Dursma had a bit of an interrupted preseason even before the quad injury. He’s got talent which he showed in the intra but you’d think he will need to build fitness over the next few weeks before he is considered.

He was also playing in the B team during the intra. I expect he will need to force his way in to the seniors.

Dursma like Whitlock and Will Dawson are the presents we get to unwrap after round 1 - something to look forward to.
