I don't think the stats prove anything either way. If, however, you're trying to defend Laidley's reputation here, then the stats certainly don't corroborate roosurgence's view. Hard to say what Pagan might have done with Harro over the years he played under Laidley. Fruitless task I would suggest.

Those stats so show, however, that Harro's winning %age (67-2-63 or 50.8%) was higher than Laidley's (48.3%), during Laidley's tenure (72-2-75).

We will never know because Denis went chasing the big bucks at the Blues.

Here are some stats that actually prove the opposite.

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/players/D/Daniel_Harris.html

Stats are meaningless. Harro was just starting out under Pagan and was showing a lot of promise. Under Laidley he should have been coming into his peak instead of treading water and eventually sinking like he did.

It actually took Laidely a few years to finally get him to the point where he was devoid of all confidence, it wasn't an imediate thing.

But feel free to use stats to try and prove a point:rolleyes:

Not sure if anyone has mentioned "class" yet.

Harro has it in spades, on field and off.

I wish the bloke nothing but the best. Good luck, Harro. :thumbsu:

Well what are you going to use to prove yours because I don't see how you can seriously say that Harro was on the verge of great things under Pagan when in Pagan's last year Harro played 4 games.

Harro improved once Dean got to the club and gave him games and time.

Love Harro. Wouldn't be devastated if we re drafted him with a late pick - no point unless we're going to play him at some point though. Would prefer he went to another club that was willing to play him in that case.

149 games, WTF? I vote for an honorary club life membership. If you're reading this Harro, you can sit in one of my extra seats any time. :thumbsu:

Oh, just for TOD.

Class.

Harro has shown true class. Maybe we could employ him in a specialist coaching role, to grow some courage in pea hearts like JWS, if we ever recruit pussies like him again.

I'd normally disagree with this as it sets a precedent for other players who have gone close but did not reach either 150 games or 10 years at the club.

However, Harris appears to be the only player to have fallen both 1 game short and 1 year short. I presume that the following players are life members (due to years served):

  • Kevin Dynon 149
  • Bernie McCarthy 148
  • Frank Gumbleton 147

Harris should be awarded an exemption and be awarded life membership.

Make it happen Euge :thumbsu:

Had him touted as a future captain about 2 years ago.

I guess it was more North's decline than anything that really squeezed him out, forcing us to start giving the younger blokes opportunities. Similar story with CJ.

Same, same, but different. :thumbsu:

On the CJ bit.

im gonna miss the way harro was able to extract the ball from any pack situation, but at the end of the day if the player is saying the the club was right for letting him go n he says he wasnt working hard enough, then i guess theyve definately made the right decision. id love to have him around the club but wouldnt want the club to draft him or anything. not worth it unfortunately

THE BRISBANE Lions seem best poised to snare former Kangaroo Jesse Smith, with the club heading a list of suitors for the injury-plagued midfielder.

Smith, 23, walked out on North Melbourne after an unsuccessful trade bid last week. He cited inadequate facilities and medical resources for his decision to leave.

He has since completed medicals with the Lions, Hawthorn, Essendon and Geelong, and his manager Liam Pickering has fielded enquires from the Sydney Swans and Fremantle.

Pickering said the native Victorian would be happy to move to Brisbane if the cards fell that way in the approaching drafts.

"He's been up there to the Lions and has seen their facilities, so he'd be pretty comfortable if he got to go there," he told afl.com.au on Friday.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Pickering said there was almost no chance of Smith remaining a Kangaroo.

"I doubt he'd go back to North. We've said all along the reasons he wanted to leave and nothing has changed his mind," he said.

"He wants to go elsewhere and change his luck."

FORMER Kangaroo Daniel Harris will nominate for next month's NAB AFL Draft in a bid to reignite a career that has stalled after 149 games with North Melbourne.

The Kangaroos were unable to find the 27-year-old midfielder a new home during trade week and are now poised to delist him.

But Harris holds no resentment towards his former lub and is focussed on starting anew with another team, according to his manager Liam Pikering.

"He's got no ill feeling whatsoever," Pickering told afl.com.au.

"He's a fantastic young bloke. He's just thankful for the opportunity North was able to give him for a number of years.

"He would have liked to have kept playing there, but that's just the way it goes."

Harris has kept training since the end of the Kangaroos' season in the hope he'll be thrown a lifeline at the November 26 draft.

Hopefully Harro finds a new home, top bloke :thumbsu: Hopefully JWS goes to Failmantle :D

"The Swans will give him every opportunity to get another contract," Playfair's manager Liam Pickering told afl.com.au on Friday.

"Our discussions have all been based around his body.

"It's good because it gives Henry some hope with the Swans.

"He's happy there and it's just really more of making sure his body holds up."

Playfair will return to training with the Swans' young group next week in a bid to demonstrate his full recovery from the long-term injury.

Pickering said the former Cat was more than willing to put his body to the test in order to secure a third season at the harbour city club.

"We all agreed he needs to be up and going. Most clubs can't afford to take a bloke on their list that hasn't played for 12 months," he said.

Gee i wonder if he would say the same about North with Jesse Smith - he is a nob.

Pickering is actually pretty good in the media, especially when it comes to giving us a fair go. As soon as he puts on his player manager cap however he undoes it all with this sort of spin to benefit the client in question.

I have no problem with Pickering. He actually likes us and played cricket with North Melbourne too.

Agreed Pickers comments in these articles represent the attitudes and needs of two different clients. I don't know why people feel he should undermine a client just to benefit our club. He's not our PR division.

I agree with this. It's hardly Pickers' fault one of his clients is a narcissistic knob! He's kept JWS busy anyway, having purchased him "Sim 2" which JWS is using to erect himself a simulated sports medical facility for his simulated footy career.

Exactly.

Plus, whatever Pickering said i have no doubt Jesse had a hand in him saying it.

It's Jesse who we should focus our rage at.

Pickering is simply doing his job, if he weren't selling Smith to the football public what would he be getting paid for?

Football is business, I don't understand how people can be so bothered by this?

Regardless, Pickering goes in and bats for us on many occasions, so I hardly think we can slam him for defending his own client.

Pickers is alryt in terms of what he says in the media. But JWS is his client. Meaning obviously whatever JWS wants Pickers has to state. We all know JWS is talented but word over years from the club is that hes just lazy and not the brightest of blokes goin round. He was never touted as a future captain. But i still cant understand why hed want out. If he reckons hell go to another club wholl find a magic cure for him to play AFL again. Hes got another thing coming.
His reasons for leaving are jus so pathetic. Crap treatment available to him?? All footballers probably see the same specialists and surgons. Cause hes in another suburb aint gonna help him. And he says our facilities are crap. For all the shit hes gone thru, a $16mil building goes up in the next month and he wants out. DUMB. And what i find hard to believe-JWS reckons our doctors suck and relates this to his manager as the main reason he wants out LOL. Have a guess who Pickers doctor is?? Yeh Dr. Con. The guy has no clue. He can rot at Freo or Richmond.
