Yeah, it wasn't to say Boomer was a better player. But on stats, there is four handballs a game between them.

Ablett is being mentioned as the possible greatest of all time and Boomer wouldn't be given a second thought.

It has been a privilege to watch him for the last 18 years.

He knows it.

We know it.

Once he's retired he will be an auto inclusion to the hall of fame when he can be elevated.

There is the distinct possibility he could make the next North team of the century, depending on where the cut off line is drawn on the centuries ticking over.

You are 100% right its a privilege. Grown men will shed tears when he calls it a day, unless he's holding a cup.

Hey, changing the topic ever so slightly, after the game, on the TV, as the boys walked into the rooms, there was a kid in a hoodie/beanie leaning against one of the pillars.

Was that Cooper?

That was Boomer himself.

In all seriouslyness though, I can't recall.

"6. Incredibly, North Melbourne's oldest player, the 36-year-old Brent Harvey, is also its highest rated in the Official AFL Player Ratings at No.5 overall. He is also the best midfielder-forward in the game, ahead of Cyril Rioli and Steve Johnson." AFL site preview for Saturday's match.

Absolutely. I'll be unashamedly one of them.

Im hoping by the time Boomer hangs them up, we have a young bonfide star thats as surgical. Would dearly love to see him holding another cup. Its one of things you dont want to think about

Only yesterday I was thinking back to 1996 when Boomer played his first and I think only game that year. 1996 was the last year the Royboys ran around and of course I was a Fitzroy person back then.

It struck me then that I have been a North person just about for all of Boomer's career and apart from Arch, no-one has given me more joy than the incomparable Brent Harvey. I just hope he keeps on going around for many more years to come, takes the games record but much more importantly, becomes a dual premiership player.

That would be just sensational.

The only chance Boomer's not going to break the games record is that we win a flag in the next couple of yrs and he retires on a high.

This year is an odd year where any of 6/7 teams can win it.
Hawks/dockers have their injury problems- cats are inconsistent and rely on Hawkins. Power and Gold Coast are young and inexperienced and so are we.
Pies are looking ok as well but cloke is the biggest concern.
Swans look the most likely but you never know.

Great post Horace.

When the day comes that the little champ plays his last game we must keep him at the club in some kind of significant role, whether coaching or development. His professionalism is the stuff of legend and must be passed on.

I say we make him the night security guard and dress him up in in a leprechaun's outfit. Him appearing out of the darkness at great speed like that would scare the shit out of local youths who may or may not be using the ground for midnight kicks of the footy while high on various hallucinogenic drugs.

You mean the Wire style 25 hours Boomer box set?

Knowing WC no matter what role he has, they'll be snatching him.

Or they could just pass it off as a side effect.....
