When people talk about a footballer who is very tall, mobile, athletic and clean, the first thing my mind goes to is Sam Darcy.

Is it possible Goad becomes a player similar to him?

Darcy was a gun backman, that turned gun forward in the back half of his junior year.

He was always a positional player.

Goad took up real competitive football basically at the end of u/17's and ran around as a cyborg in the ruck as a 18 year old. Just following the play really.

He played a bit forward and a bit back last year. He hasn't really played positional football.

You can't put a ceiling on him, but he's learning most of this from scratch. It's clearly working, he's kicked goals in pretty much every match sim resting forward and has been a handful when there....

He's at about 3am compared to his midnight ceiling, so I wouldn't rule anything out. He's going to be a much stronger mark of the ball in 5 years than now, that's for sure. About 8 weeks ago I would have said it would be 3 preseasons before he would be beating Chom and others on the lead and kicking goals from the boundary and winning clearances over a guy that averaged 7 clearances a game in the AFL last seaosn....

I know he hasn't achieved anything yet, let his rapid development be a reminded to not overreact to a youngsters form in the VFL. Some of the carry on with regards to his form last year was ridiculous for an 18 year old ruck prospect.

I reckon a bit of the carry on had a bit to do with some people pissed at Jacob Edwards who as supposed to be the next hope lazing it up but then I also think some people think pick 1 in a mid season draft is akin to the national draft.

Until we lock him down long-term I'm not convinced that Port won't get the last laugh here.
Childhood Crom fan, and they were keen on him with the very next pick. I think the odds are a little more with Crom than Poort if we don't lock him down. He seems able to focus on his footy though so he's already settled better than the Horny one

Spot on roos_fanatic08, even though some people traded off Tristan or wanted St Kilda to take him a few years ago, it was all about patience, time, match fitness and getting games into him, but some just got the chainsaw and tried to cut the big man down.

Last year on September 29th in this thread, I said a couple of things because some people didn't learn their lesson with Tristan, some were saying "YOU DON'T SPEND A FIRST ROUND PICK ON A RUCKMAN"! "LAR DE DAH DAH, HE AINT GUNNA MAKE IT, WE COULD HAVE HAD......."! SOME EVEN SAID THAT "LAST YEAR, THEY WATCHED HIS GAMES AND SAID "THAT STATS DON'T LIE, YOU DON'T USE PICK 20 ON A PROJECT PLAYER"!

Also, some people tend to forget that he had a basketball background and hadn't played much football, he's got a long way to go but the ability is there in spades, he will have ups & downs but the potential is off the charts, its good that he's doing what he's doing now because already his rate of development is ahead of schedule. Once he improves his endurance which will come in time, he is going to be a handful in more ways than one.

I really hope we are investigating getting a Corey McKernan or someone of that ilk down to work with Taylor. Think it’d be worthwhile.

Don’t rate Monkhorst?

I reackon Corey would love to be involved in something like that. Wonder if the club has ever reached out to him...

Great footballer, great of our club. Just not the sort of guy you want mentoring the current generation of talent.
