hoping the Saints come back with something, the hawks deal is better and happy enough to take if that is the only opportunity but i still dont want JC going to Hawks.

If we do get 15 and 18 i hope 1 of them can be upgraded with another trade for top 10 selection.

Unlike what seems to be most posters here, I'd prefer he went to the Saints, as long as we get value for the trade.

Without Carlisle, the Hawks backline looks distinctly vulnerable.
Oh I don't know about that.

We have won the last 3 Premierships and as far as I know Carlisle was not in the team.

I know we have retired Lake but if you think the Hawks do not have plans to cover his loss, then you don't know how we operate.

The Hawks have big wraps on Heathery and Brand, getting Jake will be a bonus and will more than likely be groomed to take over from Gibson who is rising 31yo.

That's nonsense yaco.

If you had Pick 6 you could only pray that the player you take turns into a Treloar. He may not be worth two 1st's but he's definitely worth more than one.

History of Pick 6

Dylan Smith (2000)
Ashley Sampi (2001)
Steven Salopek (2002)
Kepler Bradley (2003)
Tom Williams (2004)
Beau Dowler (2005)
Mitchell Thorp (2006)
David Myers (2007)
Chris Yarran (2008)
Gary Rohan (2009)
Reece Conca (2010)

If you look at Pick 6 in isolation it really is rubbish. Looking at the whole top ten gives you a better picture of the overall talent - even then you start to see that clearly Carlisle is worth Pick 5.

Just out of interest, what does that 'FOTY' mean underneath your username?

And the past 3 picks

Jack Macrae (2012)
Chad Wingard (2011)

It's coming around

Just out of interest do you actually know how it came about.
I don't mean why you think but actually how it happened?

Also what about my post prompted you to say this?

It was a polite and honest and accurate reply to a post.

Try not to get confused with the Bay 13 version of TazHawk as apposed to the well rounded knowledgable football guru on the other boards. ;)

If picks are so damn important, then why the hell has Carlton, Melbourne and Richmond (though finally coming good) - stunk the competition up for so god damn long? When will people wake up and see that whilst they are very important, they are not the panacea for a shit list.
And what setup Hawthorn's success? Hodge, Roughy, Franklin, Lewis, Birchall all high draft picks in quick succession and I'm sure I've forgotten some.
Yes, clubs have ****ed up high draft picks and languished, doesn't mean the potential for setting up a premiership dynasty is not also a potential outcome...

Lake, however, was in all 3 teams.

I hope we all get the the opportunity to see Heathery or Brand play in Hawks colours next year rather than Jake Carlisle, but at this stage it looks like the Hawks will cover the loss of an A grade kpd with a ready made replacement. What a pity.

It could indeed turn out to be that way IMO the Hawks saw an opportunity and took quick and decisive action and trumped the Saints. As your recruiting guy said "The Hawks have made the running and it's a fair deal"

Of course the Saints could well backtrack on pick 5 or indeed come up with another scenario, for what it's worth I still think Jake will end up at the Saints.

If the Hawks pull it off then kudos once again to Graham Wright.

My reply was to the poster that said our backline looks shaky without Jake, I was baffled as to how he came to that conclusion. The Hawks retired Lake knowing they had contingency plans.

so will today be about carlisle and the hawks negotiating on pay?
There is no way known the Hawks can match the Saints pay deal.

With Lake and Hale retiring and possibly Whitecross,Jed Anderson going I think we can offer good money but certainly not the money the Saints are offering.

Clarkson will be dangling the Premiership carrot to Jake I would think.

I don't see how Jake will want to choose the Hawks at his age. They probably have only one more year left in their window until a good chunk of their senior/best players retire.

but they keep on topping up beautifully . and when they do retire. he will get a very good paycheck. think it is a great move for him.he still has 8 to 10 years ahead of him. with free agency the top teams when bottom out like they used too...

Still people on Saints site saying if they could get 17 for Carlisle!?!?!?
Not sure they're getting it.
Those being nice on they're site - please. They are a very poor group over there.

Hodge, Mitchell and Burgoyne will be sorely missed but there key position stocks arent that old.

Not having Melksham in our team and getting pick 25, Berger for free and now a chance to stick it to the Saint supporters.
Nearly as exciting as sex.

Draft day will probably be better then sex for Essendon fans.
Might have to have a 'sickie' on draft day!!!

You need a blend of youth and experience. Bombers have perfect blend to bring young guys into with Watson, Goddard etc.

- Strange that teams like Geelong and Melbourne can quickly get deals done, when there is only one suitor - These clubs may have slightly paid overs but its a matter of locking up the player.
- Somehow Stkilda wanted Carlisle who is a first round trade without wanting to give up a first round draft selection. This is appalling management by StKilda.

We are willing to give a first rounder, just not pick 5...

Add Gibson(31) Lake(retired) Lewis (29) to that.

Hodge Mitchell Burgoyne and Gibson gone is enough to close their window.
Even replacing Gibson with Carlisle, They can't replace Hodge Mitchell Burgoyne and Lake and Lewis in two years.

Hmmm... pick 17 for Carlisle, or picks 15 and 18 for Carlisle.

What to do, what to do?

St Kilda need to understand a simple truth. If you want to deal, you need to make an offer.

You can say that all you like as a supporter. But there's a fact: there are no offers on the table from St Kilda. So what you've just said is actually wrong, or it may as well be

Ok, so it's been more or less established that St Kilda haven't put up an offer, but it's been said they are trying to get another first rounder to trade so they can retain pick 5.

What are they offering up to get said 1st rounder? We heard the 2 for 1 offer to the Crows, but have also heard that pick 5 will not be traded so I'm ruling that out.

What else are they doing?

Pick 5. Otherwise deal gets done elsewhere and Ameet is standing there with his dodger still in his hands.
