If required, do you think he could play soon as a forward/2nd ruck?

Being so quick off the mark and tall, he’d be very hard to stop/almost impossible if the ball was put out in front of him.

I’m as big of a fan as Goad as anybody, but I think he is a little too raw in terms of his footy IQ to be able to play that role at AFL level.

From a raw athletic standpoint though? Yeah, absolutely.

Who would you prefer instead of Jye?
Too soon for Parker you’d think.
LDU is more a playing leader than off the field.
Not sure there’s many other candidates?
Larkey or Sheez. Probably Sheez. Bloke is a natural leader on and off field. Plus, more difficult for Larkey to show on-field leadership if the ball ain't getting down there and/or he's being beaten by a better defense.

I wouldn't be against Parker. Crows players voted Dawson captain in his first year there and he's done well.
Only gripe with Parker is age. This really does feel like the dawn of a new era for us, so maybe it's better to go with one of the younger guns to take this group forward from the start. Like Carey.

He looks a lot more comfortable & natural playing in the ruck, where he can just chase the ball around & not have to worry too much about structures.
Worth noting that Xerri was not used in the ruck again today from what I saw.
It was Teakle vs Goad.
I can’t see him playing anywhere else other than the ruck at this stage.
Full year in the VFL as the no.1 ruck is what we want from him this year.

Could easily turn into something very very special.
His kicking needs some work, but the body and pace are getting there.
Hope he dominates 2025 in the vfl, could easily push Teakle out of a spot in 2026.

2 options for me. I'm happy with Jy solo for another couple of years before passing to Sheez.

Or if we think we need a change I'd give it to Parker. Needs to be voted in though by teammates like Dawson was. Couple of seasons and then pass onto Sheez. In my opinion too earlier for Sheez. Should be allowed to concentrate on his own game and personal dev before being given accountability of entire team.

Yes I'd be very wary of giving it to Harry too early. The effect that being made captain can have is significant. Wayne Carey would be the last North captain to improve as a player after being given the role. Possibly Simmo.

Are you thinking de konning bluws type player

No, more like Max Gawn/Luke Jackson.

Goad's ceiling is Max Gawn, make no mistake.

He has a long way to go, but physically he's one of the most gifted players in the league and we have plenty of time.

Im more wary of locking him down to another deal tbh before the Crows or Port come white anting...

He’s a paradox.

At training, he looks like an incredible mover.

During VFL games, he looked like a EDFL thirds ruckman who’d already played a game beforehand.

Doesn't help when you are played as a full back for a portion of the season.

Unfortunately he was an example last year of where VFL reserves would have been useful.

AFL teams should be able to drop 1 or 2 kids back to the Coates Talent League also imo. Particularly if they swap that selection by bringing a kid up to VFL level from the CTL.

It would be good for the strength of the comp imo.

I said repeatedly, don't judge ruckman like this inside of the first 2-3 years.

McIntosh genuinely couldn't run a lap and get a kick in Port Melbournes reserves in his first season.

Xerri looked undersized and decidedly run of the mill vanilla in year 1. I'd have given him 4 years in the comp if I was generous.

Goad is going to learn off one of the hardest trainers and one of the most physically toughest players in the position in the league.

He will know how to use his body in 2-3 seasons, particularly when he has weight and muscle to actually use. Just like Xerri learned it off Goldstein.

I think we will see him as a recond ruck option from 2026 onwards. If anything else, we know we have a genuine backup option from that point onwards, maybe even middle of this year with any luck.

What would be bone headedly idiotic would be to play CCJ or Teakle as the main ruck at VFL level and shoehorn Goad elsehwere because he's athletic.

Goad will be a genuine weapon at AFL level from 2026 onwards.

This year he should be given the keys to the ruck for the VFL side.

Teakle, CCJ etc when there should all be forward and the second ruck.

He's already starting to fill out, coming on quicker than I thought physically, and he will be an absolute meataxe at 23, let alone 28.

Him and Wardlaw for JHF, still a fair way to go on the deal but it is shaping OK so far.

Yeh last season mabye, but don't write someone off without giving them a chance this season.

He's come on in leaps and bounds this off season going by training reports. That's all you can ask of him at this stage.

If he turns into a good/consistent player, then I see that as a win/win for both clubs.

In saying that - where George gets to will have a larger say in that argument.

Not writing him off.

Im not the only one. You think North melbourne FC extends to Big Footy people only? Theres thousands of us.
I'm no fan of either being captain, but only you are threatening to throw the toys out of the cot. I doubt there are thousands threatening the same based on our increase in membership.
