While I can't see him leaving, it seems we have moved on from trac to Bont.

According to the west australian.

Collingwood considered the frontrunner to poach Bontempelli if he does not re-sign with the Dogs.It is understood the 29-year-old, who is managed by TGI Sports, has been in talks with the Magpies and would meet with the club again in coming weeks.Collingwood coach Craig McRae and Bontempelli share the same agent in Tom Petroro from TGI, which also manages a handful of Pies stars including Jamie Elliott and Brayden Maynard.

Lids completely off now, even if this is complete speculation. Looking forward to Pendles giving Bont access to his fountain of youth & getting 7 years of service from him

I’m convinced the club are trying to groom TJ to replace Howe in the floating 3rd tall role, so none of those players should be an issue. Nor should using Howes remaining 1-2 years as a development platform at the lower level.
I like TJs dash. That's what I think gives him a chance of AFL in the short term. I think he's a few years away from having the aerial and defensive game to replace Howe.

Does the article actually say Bont is having meetings with us?! How is this not everywhere 😳

Yeah, personally I think it's so important to have a ruckman who can take a contested mark. Just provides so much relief.

I think that's always been Grundy's weakness.

I don't think we can afford to lose Cameron, and I don't think Cox has another year in him. I'd try to extend his contract now. He is in our leadership group, so the club must rate him highly not only on his on-field performance.
Cameron is signed until end of 2026, will be 31 when contract ends, no need to blink now.

If there is one newspaper to take with a grain of salt it’s the west Australian 😂

The Bont news pleases me.
There's 3 paths that we take and Plan A all the way.

Plan A. It makes the most sense to go hard on Bont and Ed Richards to not have to give up picks.
Re sign Maynard and Cameron.
Then trade out all of next year's picks currently worth 1167 points to get this year's current pick value from 450 (cos flag pies '25) to over 2000 points so we can get McGuanne and the NGAs.

Plan B
Consider a Rowell or Petracca.
Then weigh up. Do we lose a player or two, Or Forgo the NGAs if they are bid on before pick 30-40.

Plan C
Get no new players in. Focus on resigning all our players and prepare to have sufficient points for the draft.

And if plan A fails, I'd go with plan C then go hard for Butters

Cameron is not out of contract

While I love the fact that a player like Petracca would want to come to the pies, he could of easily come as a free agent at the end of 2022, but he chose to resign at Melbourne.

Getting a player like Bont about for free is a scary thought. Pretty much gives us a Pendlebury-style player for another 4 years to go alongside Daicos, without giving up any capital.

Would instantly give us the opportunity to win multiple premierships over the next few years.

Getting Bont for free, and the 3 NGA’s this year allows to to compete for the now without giving up the future.

Means that the only real weakness we have is a second key back.

Tend to agree. When you're forcing teams to go down the line, you don't want to lose one of your down the line pillars.

Surely not. I can't imagine a world where the Bont actually leaves the Dogs, even if he's unhappy with how certain things are being run down there.

I mean, that would be the coup to end all coups - we'd have the two best players in the comp in our midfield - but it sounds like the stuff of fantasy.

It would be a bit Durant to the Warriors, and I wouldn’t mind…

They say we are meeting with him again next week as well, so I guess talks are progressing?

I wouldn’t have thought so, but hearing that there are huge problems at the Dogs and much could be revealed at the end of this year
